Hello all,

I'm curious if there's any guide out there for people that have no web development experience to get their site hosted on their custom domain/url.

I have hosted wikis at tiddlyspot.com & tiddlyhost.com (thanks Simon), github (thanks for the directions Mohammad) and can edit them all online.

I also own a custom domain that's just my name - intent is to use mainly as online resume or something. Let's call it myawesomename.com - but I don't know how to use the two of them together. I got my domain from google domains, and I just have myawesomename.com forward to myawesomename.tiddlyspot.com, but am curious if it's easier than it seems to set that up.

I expect this would be some hosting charge, but maybe it's relatively inexpensive. Is there an easy and inexpensive method out there that anyone's documented or can point me to?

Hi,
github allows you to "bring your own domain" and it's relatively straight forward.

If that doesn't work out, let us know!

have fun!

Hi,
Be aware, if you change your DNS domain settings, it may take some time, until they are propagated. So changing them may need several hours!!

Stobot,

Some tips that may be relevant?

  • If you have an internet host, myname.com if you place index.html which is you tiddlywiki at this address, eg in the public_html folder it will load at that address.
  • I suggest setting a splash screen so if it is slow to load people know something is happening.
  • Once established however tiddlywikis can just be files myname.com/mywiki.html or a "folder" containing an index.html myname.com/folder
  • If you own a domain you can also provision subdomains. mywiki.myname.com which also use index.html
  • Addresses can also have a html file (php and others) that subsequently redirects the domain to Another address.
Regards
Tones

Thanks for the tips Tones - I was interested in checking out subdomains too but haven't tried it yet :)
