Hi All,

I'd like to better understand how to use TW with Dropbox. Currently, I'm using TiddlyDesktop (0.0.14) with a single file TW.

My understanding is using TW with a service like Dropbox might provide two benefits: 1) the ability to have a cloud backup of my TW, and 2) the ability to access my TW on another device (after syncing of course).

Assuming this is semi-correct, what's the difference between 1) saving a single file TW in a Dropbox folder and letting Dropbox do its thing, and 2) using @Arlene22's "TiddlyWiki5 in the Sky for Dropbox"? Are there advantages and disadvantages to each approach?

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I've tried searching the community but haven't seen/found a simple explanation on this.

Thank you for helping a newcomer along 👍

Was it something I said? 🤣

Hope I didn't offend anyone asking questions about Dropbox in the Tiddlywiki Google group. Just trying to learn from the experience and wisdom of others using cloud storage. Mahalo.

Hi dlh,
I am sure it was not anything you said. You are more than welcome to ask questions.

I am sure you know, that you can view your dropbox directories and files on the web, when logged in. With the app from Arlen Beiler, you are able to open your wiki, edit  and save it.
I used it yesterday setting up af new computer. With dropbox account limited to 3 devices, It did not install dropbox on this new computer. But I needed some of the information in one of my wikis.
Sure enough I got a mail asking if it was me logging in.

I think you should try it out yourself, just to get a feeling of how it works. Even if you normally work in another way it is nice to know your options, when needed.

Thanks so much, Birthe. Simply knowing that someone recently used the app from Arlen Beiler is reassuring and helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share how you used it and under what circumstances.

Thanks,
dlh
