I downloaded over three years ago, and didn't realize that it updated
over time until today. I went to upgrade my Tiddly Wiki file using the
instructions from this article:

http://www.tiddlywiki.com/#HowToUpgradeOlderTiddlyWikis

When I tried to import my old file into the new one, I got the
following error:

Error retrieving tiddlers from local file, please make sure the file
is in the same directory as your TiddlyWiki. Click Cancel to try
again.

The problem is that the old file is in the same the new one. I did
some research, including searching this group, but I couldn't find
anyone with the same problem.

I tried the import process using Firefox 8, IE 9 and Chrome and got
the same error every time.

Let me know if you need more details

By using ImportTiddlersPlugin from TiddlyTools most of these
difficulties importing tiddlers can be easily overcome. Don't even
have to install it, just drag it's bookmarklet link from the original
TiddlyTools to your bookmarks browser bar, and apply it with the tab
of your TW to import into open:

Whenever an answer didn't help it isn't a good idea to let it be known
to the responder to the question only via PM. Since others here, who
could come up with another solutions wouldn't know the answer isn't
already answered.
.

When you say you 'added the plugin' do you mean you installed the
ImportTiddlerPlugin (ie. tagged it systemConfig and reloaded the TW)?
- or did you use the 'ImportTiddlersPlugin' bookmarklet the way I
advised?

- Because in the later case you wouldn't have to add anything to your
TW! Just click the bookmarklet in your browser bookmark bar, which
opens the more complex import dialog of ImportTiddlersPlugin in the
display area. This works without installation, but for only the
current session. As soon as you reload your TW and need it again you
would again have to apply the bookmarklet from the browser bar again.

Bookmarklets, though loading a plugin from a remote location only for
the current session without the need to reload the TW for it to
function (other then installed plugins which need a reload), have the
advantage that you don't need install some of the larger plugins which
aren't very often needed and only unnecessarily would bloat a
particular TW.

Of course, to the same end you could just install the plugin itself
and delete it after you accomplished whatever you needed it for. For
installation you would have to copy below linked to tiddler in 'edit
mode' and paste it to your TW. Give it the same title and at least a
'systemConfig' tag. Then click 'done' and reload your TW. Now it would
be permanently 'installed':

This was such a simple and elegant solution. I just spent an hour on FF,
Safari, and Opera with no luck, trying to update a TW/FiddlyWiki I've
used for years for my notes. I was about to give up on TW as a hopeless
cause. And that's saying a lot, because I love TW!

This bookmarklet solution ought to be at the top of the options on
tiddlywiki.com! I was looking for a browser solution and got thrown to a
COR site about server solutions that, as far as I could see, told me
nothing about how to get my browsers working to update.

I was reading the big discussion about TW's future, Eric's and Jeremy's
changing fortunes. Seems to me that, for TW to be generally useful to
people, the whole process must be simplified for the general user like
me. I use it as a timesaver, among other things, and just wasted an hour
trying to do an update that took me, finally, with the bookmarklet,
about two minutes.

As a foreign religious worker on a diminishing income, due to the
long-term decline here of the US dollar and loss of support from our
faith community (everybody is hurting), I still throw a bone as I'm able
to open-source projects because I believe in them and benefit
tremendously. I'm grateful for such projects as TW, and I know better
than most that words alone don't put bread on the table.

I tried it again using that bookmarklet, and this time it worked. Not
sure what made the difference, but thanks!
