Not to be a pain, but . . .

A month ago (July 26th) I posted a question here regarding ShowPopupPlugin.  A few days after that I also went to the TiddlyTools repository where I had gotten it and, using the contact form on that site, submitted the same question and text (and referenced that I had posted it here).

To date there have been no replies to my post in this group, nor I have received anything back from TiddlyTools (although I wasn't really expecting a personal reply - just thought they'd come over here to respond).

I thought there was one last version of Classic (currently in beta) that was going to be released, so I assumed that problems would still be addressed.  Or does the silence mean that Classic is totally dead, and that if any problems or questions involving it and any of its plugins come up, the user is basically on their own?

Hi MJM,

I suspect the reason that your question didn't get an answer is that there are not many active users of the forum who regularly use TWC any longer. TWC is not 'dead' inasmuch as it still does what it always did, but Eric Shulman (he runs tiddlytools, I believe) is the only expert member of the group who maintains an active interest in it, and he is currently writing a book about TW5. I'm not sure if a new version of TWC is being actively developed, but I don't imagine it will add any significant functionality. The github repo has not been modified this year - https://github.com/TiddlyWiki/tiddlywikiGiven that your question was about a particular plugin, Eric's ability to help may depend on whether or not he wrote it himself. Do you need a fix for something or are you able to work around your problem? If you think there is a bug, perhaps you could submit an issue through github?

Regards,
Richard

Hi MJM

Yeah, TiddlyTools is, even if it is hard to believe, a one(!) man show and the TW community has much to thank Eric for. He is also the lead developer for TWC. And he's the author of TiddyWiki the Missing Manual. Unfortunately, having many hats means less time wearing each and I suspect that in spite of his obvious super powers he also needs time to eat not to mention getting hold of the food to begin with.

As Richard notes, nuthin' ain't dead if it wriggles. That might not have been a direct quote. People use it - e.g my most important TW (my household TW) is still a TWC but the "community attention" (including mine) is definitely on TW5 and increasing as time passes, for obvious reasons (TW5 is superior to TWC).

By the way, the only way to minimize not getting help when needed is to help to spread TW. With more people here, the experts come or grow automatically.
