Core Widgets that can store a string into a variable include:
  • $set
  • $vars
  • $list
  • $wikify
Am I missing any common ones?

Actually there is one more very seldom used undocumented widget that has been around for quite a while!
Tony already knows it, so he isn't allowed to answer.

ha ha

I wont answer because you asked and at the moment I cant remember.

I am not sure if I should mention macro definitions as they are not widgets.

Hi Tony

I am not sure if I should mention macro definitions as they are not widgets.

Just as a point of interest, macro definitions are actually <$set> widgets behind the scenes. You can see that with the “parse tree” preview provided by the “internals” plugin:

Best wishes

Not takers for this? Here's a hint:

There is one very seldom used undocumented widget that has been around for quite a while that stores a "predetermined" string into a variable. Which widget is that?

Regards.

I think you’re fully qualified to reveal the answer :)

Best wishes

Now that I have a clue, I'm looking at it-- and here I was looking some obscure widget i may not had heard of-- I use reveal perhaps too much.

S S ,

It is frustrating me not being able to answer, even although I am not sure I know the answer. And no one else is?

It is however making me speculate, but I am keeping silent and not sharing my speculation it is opening some interesting ideas.

It would be cheeky for me to say the <$setvariable> widget

But ... but ... but ... the $setvariable widget is documented !!!
