Hey folks,

Asked this on Discord and got a couple links, but am still confused so
thought I'd ask here.

I'm a blind screen reader user. Been looking for a good
notetaking/project management tool for a while, and TW5 works well
despite a few minor accessibility issues.

But I'm stumbling over how to install plugins if I can't drag-and-drop.
Installing plugins from the default library is fine, and I guess if I
add another library then it also works. But I'd like to install
Projectify into a stock TW5, and the installation instructions tell me
to drag-and-drop a link into my wiki.

How can I do this if I can't drag-and-drop? I don't know if this plugin
is in a library that I can add, or if there's some other way.

Thanks.

If you can navigate to the plugin section of a working Projectify page, then you can export the plugin.

For instance, I think this should take you to the plugin itself (not sure if it is the most recent).

From the tiddler's drop-down menu, you can pick "export" to export the tiddler to your hard drive.

Then in your target TiddlyWiki, you can use the import button to import the plugin.

I don't know anything about Projectify. There are many other plugins in the demo page that might be necessary. For instance, language plugins and the "relink" plugins.

Got it. The installation page only says to drag-and-drop the one link, and only recommends another.

Do plugins bundle/require other dependencies? If I read other instructions telling me to drag-and-drop a link, does that link only install the one plugin? Or does it also bring along dependencies that I might miss if they aren't documented as well?

Thanks.

Usually one link is one plugin.

If a link is a tag button, then it might be dragging over more than one thing. What link are you referring to?

Most plugins don't have dependencies. But a big project like Projectify might require supporting plugins from other projects.

Sorry, not sure how to link directly to the page. But if I go to:

https://projectify.wiki/demo.html#%24%3A%2Fplugins%2Fnico%2Fprojectify%2Fdoc%2FHelp

Then click Getting Started, then Installation, I read:

Dependencies
While not strictly required, we strongly recommand installing the Relink plugin as well, as it makes renaming projects much more convenient.
• $:/plugins/flibbles/relink
Plugin
Drag&drop the following link into your wiki
• $:/plugins/nico/projectify

Obviously in that case a recommended dependency is listed. I just wasn't sure if manually exporting/importing the content of a plugin was enough, or if it might require me to hunt down other undocumented dependencies and give them the same treatment.

Thanks for the help.

Usually importing the plugin is enough.

When you drag a tag-pill, it copies over all the tiddlers tagged with that tag. The only project I've seen using that approach is Stroll, which (last time I checked) doesn't have it's own plugin.

Projectify doesn't have any dependencies, so simply installing the
plugin will work.

Installing Relink is advised though for convenience when renaming
project/todo tiddlers.

Ndar,

Often specific plugins are installed on a demo wiki, and thus the plugin list is quite minimal, thus tend to only have the plugins required. By navigating the list of plugins you will usually find the one you are looking for and which others the author included in the current wiki. The readme tab of plugins usually reference any desirable or necessary plugins, sometimes you may find an install/installing/installation tab, but you can often get an idea from the plugin list (if there is not too many). This is also a good way to identify plugins you did not know about and may be a good companion to the one you are obtaining. As Mark suggested you can then download the plugins you want from their menu.

Best of luck

It is a really good example of where offering much bites your ass.

I agree that the RELINK plugin is good. BUT, on the other hand, for beginners to TW, I doubt they have any concept of what it is for.

Just a comment about "advertise as little as possible" :-)

Hi all

re-newby here
I used TW 6 years ago and now picking it up again.
I wanted to use Stroll so i dragged the yellow tag pill from one tab in my browser to
my own TW and it showed a green line with the "Drop here" message and when i do that
there are no tiddlers to inport so i guess the plugin is not installed?
I use de Google Drive function for saving on browser Chromium at my Arch Linux system.

Anyone an idea how to fix this?

Thanks!

Ray

Hi Ray,
I just tried dragging the tagpill into my wiki. It worked well. I am using Firefox on Linux Mint and saving locally using timimi.
If you see no tiddlers in the $:/import tiddler, I do not think it is of any importance how you save, as you got nothing to save. I have experienced problems at times, showing no tiddlers to import. I think I might have overwritten the core tiddler at some point. Deleting it helps. If you get the import working you have to save you wiki and refresh the tiddlers to work. There are plugin tiddlers among them. (Are  you sure, you dragged the right tagpill?)

Good luck!

Birthe.
