Hi Folks,

The discussion about TiddlyWiki on HackADay.com once more raised the question about an easier start.

I did create a new GettingStarted tiddler, that also contains a "self explaining" "startup app", that should get new users going.

It contains 4 new elements.

 - Show Home button
 - Show Journal button
 - Create Table of Contents
 - Create a basic ToDo app

All of this can be created by the user in 3 minutes.

I did a short video, so you can see how it should work.

I did forget 1 thing in the video. ... about "Change the Layout", which should lead a new user to the Theme Tweaks, that allows, to change the story river width.

I've also attached the GettingStarted.json here, that you can download and drop onto https://tiddlywiki.com/empty.html to play with it.

I'll create a PR at github soon.

have fun!

Nice-- I can see including this modified GettingStarted into my customized TW's for the users-- with a lnk in the tiddler to the instruction video which would play in the wiki or a new window-- and help links to tiddlywiki . com & Luis' manual when it's done.

Hi Mario,
 Few comments:
- save and reload should remove GettingStarted or show a Home tiddler
- OR a button can be used to deleted the GettingStarted after he done

Another approach is to have this in doenload tiddler (empty) on tiddlywiki.com and user customize his/her empty TW

Cheers
Mohammad

PMario - good idea. If you're making a PR, maybe also these things could be incorporated:

PMario,

I really like the solution! There is one more thing I would add that I don't understand why not default: fluid story, fixed sidebar.

minor typo

More page buttons can be found in the right sideaber Tools tab

perhaps add the Home & New Journal icons along with their name like so (do they know what's being added and its tooltip will tell them what the Home & New Journal icons are for)

Show Home button {{home icon translclusion}}

The last element in the list should point the new user to the ControlPanel - Theme Tweaks tab, where s/he can set this parameter.
May be I will change the text a little bit.

This GettingStarted is intended to be a shadow tiddler. The same one which is part of empty already, but improved.
