Folks,

I just had an idea that may be useful, especially in complex Get things Done Wikis. I just wanted to put it out there is anyone had tried this or would like something similar and has some ideas about how it should look or be done?

Virtual Tiddlers, Perhaps actual tiddlers that look like another REAL tiddler.
  • Tiddlers but ones that point to another REAL tiddler
  • May use the same status value as the real tiddler, closing one closes the other
  • May be categorised differently, appearing in other lists allowing the same REAL tiddler to have multiple categorisations
  • Close/Remove Virtual tiddler with REL tiddler
  • Link to REAL Tiddler
The Questions would be
  • how we may do this? Does it transclude the REAL Tiddler?
  • How far can this concept be taken to provide a new feature to users?
My First use case
  • I have task tiddlers in Domains and Projects
  • I built a spacial project for bringing together goals
  • But other projects have their own goals
  • A Virtual tiddler for each goal tiddler, but placed in the Goals Project would present the same tiddlers in another project.
Regards
Tony

Hello Tony,

Could this be used for aliases, e.g. linking to tiddlers with a non human readable unique ID?

Perhaps they could.

I was also wondering if they could be populated from external tid files saved in the same folder.

I already have a solution for uniqueids that are independant of title.

I'm not following at all...

If tiddler a transcluded both tiddler b and tiddler v (the virtual copy of b) how would that be different from tiddler a containing two transclusions of tiddler b?

Are you talking about templates? Is this analogous to the difference between symlinks and hard links?

Dave,

The Idea would be to create a virtual tiddler from an existing tiddler, which inherits everything except the title, changing something on the virtual tiddler would be reflected on the original tiddler, however you could break the inheritance and give the virtual tiddler its own tags but on editing you edit the original tiddlers text.

There are ways to achieve this already, the question is can people imagine additional value to having such a feature?

Yes a bit like symlinks!

Tony
