How do I get TW5 to create backups? I set the Backup Directory to bak in the Advanced Settings of the Saving tab in the ControlPanel and manually created the folder in the same folder as my tiddlywiki, but nothing ever appears in it. Autosave is eanbled, so I would expect there to be a lot of backups. I tried setting the director to ./bak too for awhile, but never had anything appear there either.

Those settings are for use with a webserver and store.(php|cgi) which is used by TiddlySpot and won't work with a copy of TiddlyWiki stored on your computer. I'm not sure if it's possible to create back ups, maybe someone else can answer that but the best way I've found is to store the TiddlyWiki file in my Dropbox directory.

There is no backup system yet.

I've added a note to clarify that the settings on the "Saving" tab of the control panel only apply to TiddlySpot:

Best wishes

Thanks to all who replied.

Dropbox (or Google Drive) sounds like a good idea, and indeed I am saving my TWs to my Google Drive. What I worry about is if my TW somehow becomes corrupt and the corrupt file is replicated to Dropbox/Google Drive. Without some kind of archive history all would be lost. I really liked the comfort and safety that the old backup system provided. I guess I should add by wiki folder to my back in time target list.

Hi dlund

Dropbox has quite a nice feature whereby they keep track of previous versions of files. Unless you pay a subscription you only get 30 days of backups, but it's still pretty handy:

I plan to add an automated backup feature to TiddlyFox soon (once the release of TW5 is out of the way!).

Best wishes

Jeremy

A little bit of thread necromancy here, but I wrote a Bash script to backup my TiddlyWiki file in the event that it doesn't match the latest backup in some other folder.

Works great on Linux. Should(?) work on OS X.
