I'm new to TiddlyWiki's but find it fascinating. Anyway, trying to
get started I'm already running into errors. Being new doesn't help
with the terminology or searching either. I would think, starting
out, not wanting to change anything to start with, things should
work...but..

I'm on Win7 6.1.7600 Enterprise using IE 8.0.7600.16385CO
most things work, actually but I have Error in macro <<timeline>>
and that is the only error shows. Interestingly, when I go to other
wiki's
online(Tiddlyspot), I don't have the error.

Also tried Chrome but have trouble saving even with TiddlySaver.jar
present. Am I missing something else?

And if I could be pointed as some beginning definition of terms, that
would improve my own searching and question asking capabilities. For
example... what is a shadow tiddler?

Thanks, Dan

I get the same timeline error in XP on IE.
If we need to use IE I think we might have to use tiddlyspot or
tiddlyspace....
Tiddlyspace.com will let you test things in privacy...

I guess you'll need to install the java plugin for Chrome. Go to the
jave homepage from the Chrome browser and download java...

Additional information.
I see the same problem on hosted wiki http://tiddlywiki.com/ ( I can
send window image)
New empty wiki with problem is
version = {title: "TiddlyWiki", major: 2, minor: 6, revision: 5, date:
new Date("October 6, 2011"), extensions: {}};

I downloaded hosted TiddlerToddler from Tiddlyspot and saved locally.
It doesn't have the problem. It's version is
version = {title: "TiddlyWiki", major: 2, minor: 2, revision: 6, date:
new Date("Oct 18, 2007"), extensions: {}};

Should I be looking for that older "bug free" version, or is there
some other solution to apply?

I believe I got it working in Chrome now after setting up a
SystemSettings tiddler and putting a switch on Chrome.exe.
(and of course after more googling)
Still looking for an IE solution as I have to use that for work.
This is all more complex than it needs to be.

If your goal is to learn the basics of TW - which I highly recommend you do in single-file mode before getting into server-side new hotness stuff - then I recommend using FF3.6, which you can get and run in portable mode if you also want to have an installed newer version.

In my experience this (and only this on new windows) guarantees no browser-caused issues with all the cool plugins and packaged TWinstances available out there, many of which haven't been touched in years but are still excellent tools, even if you only use them for getting to know the full potential of the platform.

If you don't want to stick with this platform for later production use, then you'll have to test each element as you build your custom TW "app", but perhaps by that time the new TW5 code will be in stable release??

I have portableapp Firefox on a USB stick, but it reads as version 10.
I just got it though. It gives the same errors.
