To be more precise it's IE9.0.8812.16421.

When I mark all, copy and paste the "content" into a text editor, I end up with 270 newline-characters.

This happens at work and at home.

No problems with Firefox.

I'm almost certain, that TW 5.0.5-beta worked with IE9.

Hi Jens

I'm not hopeful that TW5 will ever run properly on IE9; even though it's better than previous versions, it's still pretty eccentric by HTML5 standards. But static HTML generated by HTML5 should work on anything, even back to Netscape 4.

Are you able to open developer tools with F12 and look for any JavaScript errors?

Many thanks,

Jeremy.

Strange... http://tiddlywiki.com/ works when developer tools is activated. Only the 5.0.6-beta-banner in the upper right corner looks more like at button, and not like a label turned 45 degrees.

After some experimenting with IE9-mode to Quirks-mode, I got this error message:

SCRIPT438: Objektet understøtter ikke egenskaben eller metoden 'defineProperty'  (My translation: The object doesn't support the attribute or method 'defineProperty'
tiddlywiki.com, linje 6988 tegn 2

From line 6988:

    Object.defineProperty(sandbox.module, "id", {
        value: name,
        writable: false,
        enumerable: true,
        configurable: false
    });

Does this help?

Yes, as expected it is falling over a JavaScript feature that is not present in IE9. That particular feature can be faked in JavaScript:

So, it may be possible to create a plugin that plugs some of the holes in IE9. It's not something that I'm keen to give much attention to right now, though, as there's so much to do to get where I want with contemporary browsers. It's a good area for a contributor to work, though; it doesn't require extensive knowledge of TW5's internals.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hi ,

Please can someone help me out. Basically, Im from science background. I'm not sure how all these works but my manager wanted me to create a tiddlywiki. So I started researching how to start and it's very interesting. I created some tiddlers but when i tried to save by clicking save changes but it is showing RIGHT CLICK HERE to download/save main TiddlyWiki file. I'm using IE 9.0.8112.16421.

Thank You!

Hi Sai

I'm afraid that TiddlyWiki version 5 won't work in IE9; I believe it works in IE10, and definitely works in IE11.

If you're able to, the best recommendation is to use Firefox with the TiddlyFox extension,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Jeremy, Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Actually we must only use IE and version9 as it takes a while to upgrade to version 10. What Tiddly wiki version can i use that works on IE9?

Thank you,

Sai

Why MUST you use this old browser? Just because admins don't upgrade?

So why not go for http://www.portableapps.com/ ? You do not need to install the applications and can even put them on a stick.

www.portableapps.com is a good solution...in situations where it is permitted.  In some *secure* computing environments, NO unapproved applications can be *run* on any secure machines, even if the application does not need to be installed.  Further, some secure "black box" rooms do not permit ANY removable media to be brought into the room.

In fact, some years ago, there was a user who was in a secure black box environment that did not permit him to bring in even a single digital copy of a TiddlyWiki document into the room. He actually resorted to *printing* a copy of the TWClassic source code and then *hand-entering* that output into a text file on the secure system.  Once he had a valid TWClassic document, he was able to load it into the browser and make as many copies as needed.

Hi All,

Thanks for helping me. I tried using classic.tiddlywiki and it worked well . Please I also need one more help. I wanted to know that, for example if i use the html file and save it on my machine and want to forward it to my colleagues with readonly access and also I do not want any one to download, though they download the file they should not edit it. Is this possible to do in a simpler way? I was thinking to put a password? I am not sure how to do this, please could you suggest me. I really need your help.

Thanks,
Sai

If you show a TiddlyWiki in a browser, you already did download it. So there is no way for you to prevent saving. If someone does a right click: "view page source", they see the whole TW file. If you copy paste the stuff to a text.html file it's saved. That's the general behaviour of a TiddlyWiki. ... It's a self contained wiki. ... You basically get all or nothing :)

You can create a theme, that hides elements to edit and save tiddlers. .. But you can't prevent a user from changing the html source code.

Password for what? HTML is a text file. You can edit it with any text editor.
You could encrypt your content but then you can't share it anymore. If someone knows your password to see the content, they get everything in plain text.

The only possibility I see is, that you convert your text into a PDF file. It makes it a little bit harder to mess around with your content. See: "a little bit harder"

have fun!

TW uses object "console", which is undefined by default in IE9, unless developer window in open.

Try adding this:

<script type="text/javascript">
if(!window.console) {
        var console = {
            log : function(){},
            warn : function(){},
            error : function(){},
            time : function(){},
            timeEnd : function(){}
        }
    }
</scripts>

Maybe some kind of hack or polyfill? How about a widget with:
if (typeof(console) == 'undefined') console = { log: function () {} };
Can you tell I'm clueless. I can't figure out how to fix IE9.

Jeremy already commented on this a few post up; "I'm afraid that TiddlyWiki version 5 won't work in IE9; I believe it works in IE10, and definitely works in IE11."

I just tried IE9 on tiddlywiki.com... and got the same results: a blank display

Then... to see if there were any error messages, I opened the "F12 Developer Tools" console and then refreshed the page to see any startup messages.... and, much to my surprise... the page loaded AND displayed content!

It seems as if activating developer tools gets past the blockage.  I'm wondering if it perhaps has something to do with calls to console.log() during startup (i.e., before any widget code is loaded).

In any case, if you invoke F12 before you load the page, it works... so at least there is that workaround.
