Folks,

Please find attached a TW5NewUserV0.1.tw file, it is a New User TiddlyWiki based on TiddlyWiki.com with additional tools, plugins and guidance for the new user. There is a lot of great work already occurring in this field and I do not want to step on any toes, but I was also keen to share my vision for a way to kick start new users and their learning process.

This is not a "My First Wiki" edition, perhaps that should be built on top of an empty wiki, this is a reference work you can annotate to learn TiddlyWiki with. It also aims to provide a more rapid and open method of sharing knowledge for new users.

You can rename the attached file to TW5NewUserV0.1.html to open it in your default browser. Or if you know how, create an association for .tw files set your computer to open tw files in your browser. Can at lease one person confirm they can download and open this file from GoogleGroups or their email please, html files are often rejected as attachments. This use of .tw files is a project of mine to open up TiddyWikis to be shared more easily and also treated as smart documents and it is increasingly valid in a range of savers and servers.

It has being built from my own experience and as a result of a lot of comments from new users in their initial struggles with tiddlywiki, since TiddlyWiki has some powerful concepts that take a little while to grasp. We do not want too many people being turned away at the beginning.

Any suggestions, collaboration etc... is invited.

Questions:
  • Perhaps a matching Mobile first version would help people learn away from their computer in Quinoid etc?
  • Given this contains tiddlywiki.com tiddlers should we use the comment facility (an export comments method) to propose documentation updates?
Help needed
  • I would like to create a download button that downloads the whole wiki with its additional content.
  • I would like to enable an in Browser PouchDB save of changes until this wiki is downloaded, so it can be used in the browser without any installation of save tools. Once downloaded it it would save to the file or server buy what ever means available not only to the PouchDB
Regards
Tony

Hi Tony,
Many thanks for sharing this great piece of work.

One suggestion:
If a TOC can be appeared in sidebar to lets newbies go step by step and learn things in a sequential manner!

There is one (the original TW) but I think it is not good to learn specially if you are very new to TW.

Cheers
Mohammad

Mohammad,

You sat the Learn Tab? which is my addon TOC?

I have intentionally kept the Contents tab as on tiddly Wiki .com

A step by step would be good but it needs the work to be done as to where to go and needs careful consideration, is there an example somewhere?

PS I have your Shiraz plugin installed, would that be OK?

Regards
Tony.

The Eric Shulman (Inside Tiddlywiki) I think is good example!

Of course! I am happy you found it useful!

Tony, Mohammad,

I'm sorry, but why do you make a separate wiki, why don't you add this information, tutorials, tips, etc. to the main wiki? This is for beginners who are firstyl looking at the main wiki. To learn from the notes you collect, they must find them first. I think it is not necessary to collect knowledge in parallel, but to expand it together. TiddlyWiki is open source, why not contribute in its documentating?

Bimlas,

Once a smooth way to contribute to the key documentation is found I would always contribute there. WHat I am building is a copy of TiddlyWiki.com so the user can annotate, Favourite, rate and  and organise their learning experience. For example it already has TOC(s) and more, and I hope to add guidance which is less formal than should be used in "formal" documentation".

Attached is a recent DRAFT copy. I still need to export my changes and import them to a new copy of tiddlywiki.com to capture recent updates and plan to add more features. I also intend to host it like noteself and yet also allow save as new wiki retaining noteself added content.

Regards
Tony
