Hi everyone,

The TW CommunitySearch wiki (a.k.a the aggregator) is back, with a new address and several significant improvements: check it out at http://erwanm.github.io/tw-community-search/

For tiddlywikians who don't know it yet, the CommunitySearch wiki is an index of many public wikis from the community, which is updated automatically every day. The main advantage is that you can search all these wikis at the same time.

If you are a wiki author and your wiki is not yet in the list of indexed wiki, please email me!

New features:

- a list of plugins from the community, primarily based on Jed Carty's list and enriched with automatically collected info about the plugins.
- CommunityNews: this feature lets wiki authors publish their news on the CommunitySearch wiki, where all the news are aggregated.
- the tag bookmarking feature
- the documentation has been improved (don't expect it to be perfect though).

There are probably a few glitches left here and there, please tell me if you find something which doesn't work. Also if you were using the old address, please notice that it will stop being updated soon; in other words: please update your bookmarks.

Enjoy!

This is absolutely fantastic and, if I may pontificate for a sec, one of the best examples of Infrastructure projects I think we have in the TW project. I'm guessing this will become super valuable.

I'm not sure people get the implications for this but, to name one thing, this is a good step towards a way for newcomers to find information in one central place.

Niiiiice! Erwan, you implemented the "latest news" section!! Sorry, just saw your post today. I'll try it out tomorrow! Can't wait to do a first "news" post on your aggregator site. That's truly revolutionary and I am very sure it will be a big success.

Hi Erwan

Great work, thank you. I can see that you've implemented some very useful features.

How would you feel about adopting the community search wiki as a community resource? In particular, pointing http://search.tiddlywiki.com/ at it.

It would also be pretty cool if you could produce a static rendering of the news tiddlers that we could link as http://news.tiddlywiki.com/. Would that be feasible?

Best wishes

Jeremy.

I need to update my plug-in listing again. If you have a plugin you want listed let me know and I will add it to the list.

The new features look good.

Hi Felix,

I was curious to see if it worked, so I ran the update process before the regular daily update ;)

Congratulations on publishing the first (real) CommunityNews!

Sure, I'd be honored! the only risk is to make me feel too proud about it ;)
Let me know if that involves any action on my side.

Sure, that should be quite easy to do.
I assume that I should do it like for the tw5.com static version? (as described in http://tiddlywiki.com/#Generating%20Static%20Sites%20with%20TiddlyWiki)

Hi Jed,

The tiddler
http://erwanm.github.io/tw-community-search/#%24%3A%2FPluginIssues might
help you find problems with the existing plugins and explore potentially
new ones. Some of the problems might come from my side of things, of
course (e.g. if I don't have a wiki address in my list, or if we have a
different address).

Also you should be able to reimport plugins tiddlers from the
CommunitySearch wiki, but I don't know if this is convenient for you?
Let me know if I can present things in a way which makes it easier for you.

Nice, I saved my place in history :) The other wiki authors were too slow :D Let's see who does the next community post ;)

Hi Jeremy,

I did a first version for the static "news" here:
http://erwanm.github.io/tw-community-search/news-static/

It's updated daily like the TWCS wiki, but that will be visible only
when people publish some news in their wikis ;)
The way it looks could probably be improved, and I don't know what would
be the best option w.r.t how it is displayed (single tiddler html, all
the individual tiddlers...)

This is nice. It appears that there might be some external links missing? ...especially the documentation links.

I find the easiest approach is to output just a single tiddler. Somewhere on my back-burner there's now a blog edition of TiddlyWiki5 where I intend to collect some static templates. Not much there at the moment except this one:

I made a ticket for discussing the technical issues of setting up http://search|news.tiddlywiki.com:

Best wishes

It's because at the time these "news" were written I thought they would
be displayed only on the wiki.

In the future I think it's easier if everyone writing news uses absolute
urls, since the goal is for the news to be displayed from somewhere
else. I'd prefer to avoid having to rewrite urls automatically since it
would probably be a source of errors.

Hi Erwan,

I'd prefer to avoid having to rewrite urls automatically since it  would probably be a source of errors.

As far as I can see...
  1. you know the url of the source wiki
  2. you know the target tiddler title
  3. you can url-encode that into an external link
This surely requires work, and I would not ask of you to break a sweat over it you either can't or don't want to invest time into making that happen and there sure are a number of ways to go about achieving that result. In the past, in TW2, I would have used some jQuery magic in a conditional to simply rewire any internal links to being external based on some source field.

I do think, however, that it would rather remove a lot of confusion than create errors, assuming it worked. Of course, you won't be able to "fix" any links generated via macros, so that would be the authors fault of having used such a dynamic construct. Personally, as an author, I would not use external links in my posts, though, when the target is a tiddler in my own wiki.

Perhaps, there can be a new link-markup that renders as an internal link on my site, but as an external link when the tiddler gets imported into another wiki, e.g.:

[[pretty title|the tiddler|mysite.org]]

...and so, if the location of the current wiki does not contain the last bit of the above, it's going to be an external link, prepending the default protocol so long as none is specified.

Best wishes,
