I saw @buggyj was active recently and thought I'd be cheeky and take the opportunity to ask how his work on bringing Tiddlyclip up to date for Firefox 57 was going?

I was looking at some of the docs for the transition to webextensions and it seems like it might be a tricky project but then I remembered that you got it working in Chrome before - is that version still available? How are things looking with Firefox?

Tiddlyclip is a really important part of the ecosystem and, personally, I will miss it much more that Tiddlyfox if they both go away.

+1 for a maintained and modern web clipping tool. I haven't gotten a chance to properly check out the state of TiddlyClip, but I desperately need something to fill this gap if TiddlyWiki is going to fill the place in my personal workflow that I want it to. I'd be willing to help out some on the dev side of things if someone is taking responsibility for the project.

Ciao Reid & RichardWS

As far as I understand it TiddlyClip is extendible, BJ provides notes on how to extend it. I'm not sure how much that facility has been used.

On whether with FF57 it will work ... well I don't know enough. So long as its not needing direct to disk file saving there may be a way?

Best wishes
Josiah

HI Richard,

I plan on making a version for ff57, but as it is a new system, will wait until the last moment before doing the work, so that other people can find the bugs in ff!

I use tiddlyclip alot and plan to keep using it.

@Reid
I don't think that is much that needs to be done with TC at the moment, but feel free to poke around.

@@TiddlyTweeter
tiddlyclip pastes directly into the tiddlywiki it is 'docked' to, so it does not need to worry about saving.

all the best

@BJ - Is there any plan to make a TC that works in Chrome? Would be fantastic.

Hey all,

I want to start using TiddlyClip, but my main browser these days is Chrome. Unless I've missed something, the tiddlyclip site only mentions an xpi (firefox) file. How do I install in chrome?

Thanks,
Diego

Sorry!! The second I pressed send, I realized the download link for the xpi file is a github link. I checked the repo and there it is!

Disregard my previous message! (I wont delete it in case others make the same mistake and come across it while searching.)

Best,
Diego

TiddlyClip is a great piece of kit IMO. Perhaps not as well documented as would be ideal. I think if it got some more vocal users with programming skills it might get even better.

My 2 cents

I agree,

I spent 15 minutes trying to quickly get it customized and wasn't able to, so I put it back on "Ill understand it later".

This is not meant as an insult! Just that I personally couldn't get it quickly up and running, which might be a target for future improvement!

Best,
Diego

It is complicated! What with multiple levels of configuration, different methods of field notation, and JSON texts that need to be typed as a jumble of text. And I don't think there's a complete explanation for how to use larger data (CDATA). This is why once I have something set up, I keep using it even when it's not appropriate (like crafts projects are tagged "German").  But it's the only game in town, and once it works it's great.

One thing, but if you use it with the default save mechanism, it undocks every time you save. So you pretty much have to find some other mechanism if you want to do any clipping.

Hi Diego,
there is a description of how to load TC in chrome here:

http://tiddlyclip.tiddlyspot.com/#Upgrade%20Instructions

The latest version of the browser plugin is here (it is a prerelease, but it is very similar to what with be the next full release):

https://github.com/buggyj/tiddlyclip/releases

I have not registered to get the plugin on the chrome store yet, so you will have to use it is a developer mode.

All the best BJ

Hi BJ,

Any idea if this can be used with Opera browser any time soon? I've tried some time ago, a kind of Opera ad-don allowing Chrome extensions to work with Opera, but I couldn't make TC work...

Thanks.

HI Costi,

I use tiddlyclip with opera, I am on version 49 of opera (on ubuntu 14.04). It needs to be installed as an unpacked extension and the box "Allow access to file URLs" needs to be ticked. download the zip from here https://github.com/buggyj/tiddlyclip/releases. (and unzip)

If you are doing a lot of clipping you may want to also use the savetiddlers extension - https://github.com/buggyj/savetiddlers/releases - it also needs to be installed as an unpacked extension.

Works perfect now, thanks.

Only inconvenient is that refreshing/reloading the TW page it will clear the "tiddlyclip rightclick menu". Each time I reopen it I have to redo the "dock here" setting/setup.
Is there any persistent config for this?

PS: I'm running TW on Node.js.

Tiddlyclip is designed to remove docking info when a tiddlywiki is removed (in anyway) from the browser. Any other behavior would take some effort to program.....

Works great with FF 60.0b14  Developer Edition

Obviously an improvement was made:
Now the TW and the source-web-site can be in different windows, while in the past they had to be different tabs in the same window.

Kudos to the author

I have created a bug report about the undocking: https://github.com/buggyj/tiddlyclip/issues/54

The JSON configuration is actually the 'underwear' of tiddlyclip, it was not meant to be used in general - I have just been a bit slow with creating the shirt and trousers! Things will improve with the next release.
