Sidebar TiddlyWiki
FND
A recent article on Lifehacker* has made me realize that TiddlyWiki
would be the perfect tool to place important notes and links into the
browser's sidebar.
All that's needed is a little customization, possibly inspired by
existing themes for handheld devices (e.g. iTW; http://itw.bidix.info).
I'm just throwing this idea out there in case anyone's interested in
creating such an adaptation - I don't think I'll produce anything myself
anytime soon.

Any suggestions on how to improve it, would be appreciated.
I removed the sidebar, and placed the tabs and other options in
sliders at the top. It works great on my two systems (Linux with FF
3.0B4 and WinXP with FF 2.0.0.8), one has a wide screen monitor, the
other is a standard sized monitor.

I've noticed you've modified the StyleSheetLayout shadow tiddler. You
should never do that - use StyleSheet instead. More info here:

Also, with the following code the current document can be opened in the
sidebar:

the browser doesn't refresh the sidebar. Good for importing plugins,
etc.

but it's enough of a pain to edit them that I don't use this as much
as I could--a TW is the perfect way to get an easily editable "index"
of often-used links, as well as a place to put quickie notes and such.
Given the tall, thin sidebar, what I think would be best suited to
this application would be a variation of the VisualTW approach (http://
visualtw.ouvaton.org/VisualTW.html) where open tiddlers are shown as
tabs. That way, one could choose quickly among several "panels"
without scrolling.

I'll upload an update.

work. I added the Tiddlyspot and upload plugin, added a button to
refresh the tiddly, and restored the StyleSheetLayout tiddler to it's
original state. If you want to play, feel free, but it is not really
ready yet. I'll post when I get it how I like it.

Just one suggestion: Add some horizontal padding (only 2-5px) to the
main containers.

Sort of like a remote-control? That'd probably be possible, but not
without considerable effort.
Also, why not just create a theme with a sidebar on the left for that?

It still shows up as a regular tiddler though - how did you restore it?
The proper way is to restore a shadow tiddler just delete the respective
tiddler - more info on the community wiki:

opened in the sidebar. It would be nice to use this theme only when
in the sidebar and my normal theme when in the main part of the
browser.

a long time. I'm (somewhat) sure that a plug in could be designed for
that - but I currently don't have the knowledge to do that (which
makes me respect those that do have that kind of knowledge all that
much more).
