Hi all

Request for feedback!

I am experimenting with this. I still have at least three improvements to do over the next few days, before I consider it done enough for me to work with for myself.

1. Create new here buttons and adjust visibility. I know how to do that.
2. See if there is a way to create more permanent custom colors in the color field color picker (not the drawing tool color picker). This I do not know how to do.
3. Fix the spacing in the tag pill dropdowns. Not sure what I did there, but I can figure that out on my own.

TidBursts is very similar to old NoteStorm experiments, but this time without conditional viewtemplates and list filters. Just dump and tag, then use 'open all tagged' to open the notes, and use other buttons to hide the tiddler titles for the notes.

http://giffmex.org/experiments/tidbursts.example.html

You guys are usually pretty good at finding 30 other things that need changing, so I wanted to take advantage of your wisdom.

Seems like another sensational concept from  giffmex!

I didn't look at your logic for the filter box, but it seems to me that it might be better if it searched the entire tiddler contents. Apparently it's matching by start-of-line. For instance, if I type the letter "b" in the box, all the filter tags disappear but for Dubai. So I don't see "Xochimilco boats" which would be under "Places to see in Mexico city".

This might be impossible to do with ordinary filter operators, but it might be helpful if clicking on the tags showed the first line of the tiddler as a reminder of the possible contents. Seeing the title (ID) is not going to be useful unless you have a really good memory (in which case you don't need TW ;-) ) and changing the IDs would create an awkward work flow.

Good luck!
Mark

Hi Mark

Yes, that is a limitation of Tobias Beer's list-search filter. You can only search one field. I may be able to offset that by weaking the regular search box so that results show tiddler contents not just titles.

Wading through the code, I can see I was too expecting too much. I thought it would list just those tags whose corresponding tiddlers contained the search text. What it does instead is display the tag NAMES that match the search criteria. Well, I can see where that could be useful too once you have lots of tags.

Thanks!
Mark

Hi Mark

Yes, the goal of that filter is to look for tags when you have a lot of them, which I expect to. If I could have it search all the fields that would be better, I think. Though if there are heaps of tiddlers with multiple tags the list of tags might not narrow down far enough.

The regular search mechanism will be what people need to use to search for tiddler text. I will make the instructions clearer and will try to hunt down that context search plugin and add it.

I don't know if this is something you can control, but in the tag selection box the tag text is shown in blue (link) color. This makes at least one of the tags (Places to see in Mexico city) almost impossible to read. Other dark colors would be likewise difficult.

Good luck!

Okay I have now cleaned up most of what I hoped to clean up:

1. There are now new here buttons for notes, image notes and drawings
2. Context search in the Search tab
3. Darkened tag title color and made them bold.
4. Replace tags plugin is installed.
5. Version info
6. Some new and changed instructions
7. Some CSS tweaks.

Just thinking out loud ... when you click on the tags, you see a list of ID/titles, which isn't very helpful. To add titles you have to click on "full text" and then edit each tiddler.

What if ... there was an edit field when in "full text" mode that would let you quickly change the title without having to open it up, change, and close ?

I think you would make the decision to title or not to title when you create the tiddler, so you would not need such a mechanism in the moment of making that decision. The idea of the date time stamp is that creating titles for most tiddlers is a waste of time. Just paste or write content, tag, and be done. Much faster without the step of coming up with a title, if you don't need one.

You are only wondering about more quickly editing the titles because you are looking at MY tiddlers. But in your own use of TW you will create your own and make that decision at the moment of creation. And your gut instinct at that time will probably be right, so you probably won't feel the need to change your mind later on and add a descriptive title.

Oh, I was thinking the idea was to quickly make a note and then go back and re-title at leisure. Better yet would be to leave the title alone and later add a caption (if there is a way to make captions show on tag clicks).

I know when I get an idea, or, more likely, a phone call, I don't want to get bogged down in details. This is the beauty of one of my other favorite note-taking tools -- SimpleNote. There you never provide a title. The first line of your text becomes the default caption, which you can easily change later.

Thanks!
Mark

Yes, Josiah, if you refresh and open it back up, you will find I added Context search back in already. Enjoy.

Is it supposed to have the search term highlighted in yellow as Josiah is suggesting? I'm not seeing that at the moment.

Thanks!

If the context search is my plugin you need to introduce a term of 4 characters at least. Less than that produces too many results and highlighting is ignored

Found the problem.
I have to update the plugin. Because the plugin is so old, and tiddlywiki has changed so many things recently (or maybe Dave is using an old version of my plugin, not sure) y the styles are not being applied. This can be easily fixed by opening the tiddler

$:/plugins/danielo/context/css

and change the tag $:/tags/stylesheet by $:/tags/Stylesheet (mind the uppercase S!)

Dave! You should update your plugin! You are using version 0.1.3 while the latest one is 2.1.0! take a look at http://contextplugin.tiddlyspot.com for the latest version (until I move it to my own domain)

I do know what I am doing, but I just assumed Danielo would have done his plugin well enough the first time, so that he would not need to update it. :-)

My plugin was almost perfect :P

My only mistake was to use the tag name that was being used those days instead of predicting the future.

David, have you considered using the core macro "now" instead of the dateTime macro? it will make your code more portable

David Gifford

Yeah, the future isn't what it used to be! :-)

I wasn't aware of the now macro. When I have time I will look into it and most likely change it. But right now I am knee deep in organizing the logistics of two international meetings and getting my new courses ready for this week. So it will probably have to wait about 3 weeks. Blessings!

The TidBursts example now has...now...as in the now macro rather than the datetime macro.
