I'm trying to get started with TiddlyWiki and TiddlyFox. I'm running Firefox 53.0.3 and I have installed TiddlyFox 2.0.1. Nothing seems to be work as described in the documentation I've read:
  1. Open the file in Firefox
  2. Click OK in response to the prompt from TiddlyFox that asks whether to enable saving for this file

I don't get a prompt when I open the TiddlyWiki file.

Save your changes by clicking the save changes button in the sidebar

  • Look for the yellow notification Saved wiki at the top right of the window

When I do try to save, a message pops up "Saved wiki", but I also get a dialog box that pops up:

If I cancel this dialog, nothing has been saved. If I click OK, it saves the file in a new location like: file:///C:/Users/Steve/AppData/Local/Temp/TestWiki-2.html. So saving this way creates a new file every time. Saving was a pain before I installed TiddlyFox, but it's much worse now.

Can anyone help figure out why this is not working as expected?

Thanks,

Steve

If you click on the kitten standing on the blue ball, do you get a message confirming that you have enabled saving for the current TiddlyWiki?

Good luck,
Mark

Hi Steve,

You installed the right version of TiddlyFox. It works in a different way than the former. You should see an icon of a cat on a globe in your browser. For each local TW you want to save you have to click the icon and enable saving.

If you should for some other reason have a browser breakdown do yourself a favour and check that saving is still enabled for every TW you have open i a tab. (After having used tiddlyfox with absolutely no problems - even after browser breakdowns, I experienced the above mentioned situation yesterday.

Are you new to tiddlywiki? If so "Welcome", you are in for a lot of fun.

Birthe,

Thanks for the reply. This is my first time using TiddlyWiki.

Mark,
Thanks for the reply. I don't see a kitten or a blue ball. This is what it looks like when I first open the TW:

I close the Getting Started form and create a new Tiddler and then it looks like this:

I click on the red circle with check mark and that's when everything goes wrong as I described in my original post.

Hi Steve,

Your screenshot is a little blurry, but I don't think I'm seeing the kitty. I'm wondering if it could have flowed over into your customize section? Click on the 3 bars and option "customize" and see if it's there (it could be anywhere in the 2 option panels). Also, maybe a screenshot of your extensions page so that we can see that the right tiddlyfox has been installed?

Good luck!
Mark

Hi Steve,

I cannot see the cat on your images. You have to restart your browser after installing tiddlyfox 2.0.1 and it does not work with “Private Browsing” or when “Never Remember History” is enabled.

Hi Birthe,

The problem was the Private Browsing. Once I turned that off everything worked fine. Thank you!!!
