I decided to see if it was possible to make some sort of game using only the core tiddlywiki with no plugins or javascript. I made a very bare bones zork/interactive fiction type game. It is currently the simplest thing I could make and claim it was a game, but I may add on to it in the future. It uses the 5.1.5 prerelease because the action-setfield widget saved lots of work making macros.

One goal of this is to use nothing besides what is contained in the core tiddlywiki, so there is no javascript and no plugins.

One thing this made me realize is that some sort of if statement (or a case statement, that may be better) in TW would be awesome. I have no idea if this would be hard to implement in wikitext, I imagine that an excel-like if would be possible.

At the moment it is hosted on google drive. If someone could tell me if there is a way to open it without downloading it first I would appreciate it.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Aside from actually putting some sort of content into it. If there is actually interest I may see about making a simple authoring tool (still only using the core TW5, it shouldn't be too hard).

Sorry, I didn't actually change the default tiddler in that one. This link is for the one that actually starts out where it should.

Hi Jed

What a fun idea. Now that I finally found the key, I will leave for work....lol.
I would never have thought, that TiddlyWiki could be used for that.

Take a look at this for google drive hosting:

Regarding your if/else requirements, Jeremy recently said :

Getting it done required extending the "set" widget so that it can assign different values conditional on the results of evaluating a filter:

hi,

i like that. looks great and is very accessible using a screen reader.

an authoring tool would be very cool which does the heavy lifting.

simon

I made an updated version that has some more complex things in it.

Thanks for the help with hosting. I was able to make a limited if statement using filters and the reveal widget, but I will have to look at the updated set widget. Just glancing at it now I think it will be very useful.

From new things I have done with this I think I will be able to make an authoring tool relatively easily. I think I could make something that allows the creation of everything but the combination lock part of the new example without any wikitext input. If I do get around to making the tool it would be easy to have some prepackaged things like the lock that can be applied to containers, but that is something for me to think about later. I am glad you liked it.

Here is the like to the properly hosted updated version. I am feeling irreverent so I decided to go with the monkey island sort of explanation for why the character tries weird stuff and just make them mostly incompetent/oblivious. I am hoping that doesn't bother anyone.

hi,

maybe the new export features will help.
so you can export the stuff which has been made in the authoring tool
and then can be imported into a empty wiki by the user.

greetings,
simon

Hi Jed

Terrific work, well done. You're really showing off what can be done with wikitext. Very impressive.

Best wishes

Jeremy
