I got sidetracked while trying to update the resume buidler and made a simple tabbed story view prototype. It only has a single tiddler open at a time similar to the zoomin storyview but it lists the open tiddlers as tabs at the top of the story river.

It is very rough but it shows the basic idea at least. Any thoughts or suggestions? Here is the demo.

Very interesting! Reminds me of something I played with years ago for TW classic.

My vote would be for the x's to eventually become part of the tabs. I realize this is an eary version and I imagine that is what you have in mind.

Other quickie comments FYI:

1. Is it possible to make the tab to the open tiddler be a lighter color
2. Creating a new tiddler should make that draft be the current tiddler, but I needed to open that tab.
3. And editing the new tiddler was strange. Said it was a draft but I had to click edit to get to edit view.

All in all, though, a great start to a helpful feature for TW5. I can see myself using this.

So much great stuff. Yes, the equivalent in TW2 was my preferred storyview back then and probably will be now, I suspect.

* I suggest the X for closing is to the right, just like they are in browsers and tagpills and even tiddlers. I'd say it's pretty much a standard.
* Close all doesn't close all.
** ...which becomes particularly problematic if you first attempt to close all and then click "New Tiddler" and swithc over to the New Tiddler ecause then you can't reach that first one that didn't close... but on theother hand it was supposed to be closed ;-)
* "New Tiddler" gives a tiddler whith (a) it's title in viewmode and (b) no body
* I don't get it to edit correctly. Clicking edit switches over to edit mode but the title is gone in the edittitle field. And clicking Undone doesn't work.

BTW, the other day I briefly looked at flexboxes. This might be very relevant for the the tab row. Or to have the tabs permanently display at  screentop, i.e evenwhen scrolling down to read a longer tid.

It's worth reflecting over that the sidebar tab Open kind of does the same thing as the tiddler tabs. Maybe that sidebar tab is superfluous?

Ok, that'll have to do for now. It is a story view I've really missed. I'm curious to see if I find it as useful also in TW5.

Hi

The tiddlers can be closed with their normal close buttons -- seems that is is unnecessary to include an extra button in the tabs.

Hi Jed

But, after playing around for a while, I really like the idea -- better feedback of which tabs are open, and easier to navigate amongst them. Definitely worth further effort.

regards

Hi Jed,

Some time ago a guy named rcrath made something similar, see TW5-TabStory.

I made a Tabstory plugin out of it.

Cheers,

Breadcrumbs 2.02 :  I like especially the "twinkling eye button" in the sidebar, which allows to switch the breadcrumbs on and off;

I love the idea of a tabbed wiki, similar to a browser in a browser. For that however we'd need the tabs at the top level, outside of all divs and, ideally, position:fixed to the top of the page.
