I am trying to embed some icons in my TW (favicons are the perfect
size) but I can't get it to work.

For example: http://www.favicon.cc/?action=icon&file_id=759

I tried creating a tiddler with the data (as described on the above
link) and using '[img[tiddername]]' to display it, but it didn't work.

Can someone point out the simple mistake I am making?

Thanks for the quicky response, but this isn't what I was looking for. I'm not looking to set a single favicon for my tiddler.

I am looking to embed various icons inline in my tiddlers. I'm considering favicons because there are many available (see the favicon.cc site) and they are well-designed to display inline because they are small.

OK, Bob. In that case see [1], also usable for images inline.
For more information about formatting images, see [2]

Hi Bob,

The above link does not describe how to "create a tiddler with data".
So, what exactly did you try? Did you download the image? Did you
upload it into your wiki? How? Where? Did you use Eric's
AttachFilePlugin [1] or did you use the binary upload on TiddlySpace?
Did you try to point to the [img[local/path/of/the/image.jpg]] or
should you rather be using the dedicated <<image>> macro in
TiddlySpace? Lot's of questions...

Cheers, Tobias.

Tobias,

Thanks for the more focused response. Sorry for the lack of detail on my part.

By 'Create a tiddler with data' I mean something like this: http://www.tiddlytools.com/#table.png

The original link I posted included the base64 version of the favicon I am trying to embed, so what I did was copy that base64 string into a tiddler in a similar format as the table.png example above. I then tried to display it with [img[tiddlername]] where 'tiddlername' is the name of the tiddler in which I placed the data.

Is there an 'image' macro in TW? I'm not using TiddlySpace (gotta read up on that, I guess).

In order to make this [1] work you need at least
AttachFilePluginFormatters [2] from TiddlyTools and maybe also a
version of AttachFileMIMETypes [3] that allows for the mime tyes of
the images that you want to use.

Other than that you also need a decent browser that is able to read
base64 encoded data elements ...under the category of which Internet
Explorer with admirable persistence does NOT fall. ;o)

Cheers, Tobias.

Bummer.

I was hoping that by embedding the images (favicons in this case) I could avoid the external dependency of the server currently hosting the images. I guess the simplest and most compatible thing to do (though bad netiquette) is to link to the images.

Again, if you are not using Internet Explorer - for which there should
be no reason other than you being forced to be using it - you CAN
embed images into tiddlywiki, which is especially meaningful for icons
of a small size such as favicons. What AttachFilePlugin does is merely
to provide for certain fallback solutions. That is, if it can't get
the remote image, it takes the local one, if it can't get that, it
takes the base64 encoded data ...if that's the right cascade.

Cheers, Tobias.

IE (pronounced 'AiEEEEE!') is the problem. I publish a TW for consumption by a small group of people, so I don't have control over what browser they use.

Your reference to TiddlySpace is prescient; if serves a similar purpose as tiddlyspot but allows me to edit online and preserve read-only access for other users, I need to look into that. It could be easier than uploading to tiddlyspot.

Also, what might be interesting to you is that you can upload binary
data into tiddlers on TiddlySpace, thus images. A simple example would
be the SiteIcon of a space:

Cheers, Tobias.
