sum of variables

Both foo and bar have the same amount, say, 1. How should I get the following to show the correct sum output, i.e 2. It currently outputs just 1 (presumably because the identical amounts are reduced).

{{{ [<foo>get[amount]] [<bar>get[amount]] +[sum[]] }}}
