Hi, I'm new here, and definitely not the programming type, but I think
I'd like to get a Tiddlyweb site going on my own website. Currently
as its a "regular" TW, nothing in it can be found by a google search.
I've been told that tiddlyweb //is// search-able by google and so I'd
like to start the process of trying it out.

I do have a couple questions I was wondering about though:

1) at http://tiddlyweb.peermore.com/wiki/ I can copy and paste the
phrase "One of the most prominent use cases is TiddlyWebWiki, a
flexible server-side implementation for TiddlyWiki." into google and
come up with this:

http://tiddlyweb.peermore.com/wiki/bags/docs/tiddlers/TiddlyWeb%20Documentation

which technically is the content I was searching for, but its not in
the normal context. Is this the only way of seeing the results, or is
there a way to make the tiddler be seen in the context of its "home"
TW "screen". I know there is a TiddlyWeb link at the bottom right,
but its not obvious that that is what you should click to see it in
the proper context. As well I assume that wouldn't work anyway if the
searched and found tiddler wasn't in DefaultTiddlers

2) is there a list of examples of TiddlyWeb sites, and is there a way
to tell if a TW site is TiddlyWeb or "regular" TW?

Thanks,
Dave Parker

Your post raises some interesting issues, Dave!
It's worth noting that TiddlyWeb is not identical with TiddlyWebWiki:
http://tiddlyweb.peermore.com/wiki/recipes/docs/tiddlers/TiddlyWebWiki

> [goggling returns] the content I was searching for, but its not in

Jon has been working on this recently:
http://twitter.com/rakugojon/status/3176340237
http://www.jonrobson.me.uk/wiki/recipes/beefcaked_jonrobson/tiddlers.wiki#%5B%5BNo%20javascript%20tiddlyweb%5D%5D

A somewhat different (perhaps complementary) approach is this:
http://github.com/FND/tiddlyweb-plugins/blob/master/hwiki.py

> is there a list of examples of TiddlyWeb sites

This might be a good start:
http://tiddlyweb.peermore.com/wiki/recipes/docs/tiddlers/Showcase
That list is incomplete, of course - e.g. Jon and Ben* are using TWW for
blogging, and there might be other uses we're not aware of.

Well, other than the plugins from the system bag, there's nothing baked
into the TiddlyWiki representation stating that the document was
generated by TiddlyWeb. (This might be worth considering though - do you
have a particular need?)
The URL might give it away (e.g. if /bags and /recipes are visible or
available) - but that's not guaranteed.

The most authoritative way to see if some of the content in a
tiddlywiki has come from a tiddlyweb is to see if any of the tiddlers
have a server.type attribute of "tiddlyweb". This does not, however,
guarantee that the entire wiki came from tiddlyweb: It could be that
some of the content was imported from a tiddlyweb.

The default tiddlywebwiki serialization sets <noscript> to content
that looks like this:

<div id="javascriptWarning">
This page requires JavaScript to function properly.<br /><br />
If you do not use JavaScript you may still <a href="%s">browse
the content of this wiki</a>.
</div>

If that is present in the document source, it's likely the wiki was
generated by TiddlyWeb/TiddlyWebWiki.

Thank you both for the info

FND, you mentioned
"Jon and Ben* are using TWW for blogging," and on the TWW link it
says:

"One of the applications of TiddlyWeb is the provision of a TiddlyWiki
suited for multi-user collaboration. TiddlyWebWiki is the vertical
providing the necessary client functionality and server-side plugins
to create the TiddlyWiki platform."

Is this because more is needed than with the plain TiddlyWeb to allow
commenting?

Last question, what's the ETA on a beta version (i.e. stable and able
to use any regular TW plugins)?

Thanks,
Dave

Things are pretty much beta now, but upgrades are still coming quite
frequently. The HTTP and Python APIs are stable, but bugs continue to
be found (and fixed).

There is a thread called "The Road to 1.0" in this group. At: http://groups.google.com/group/tiddlyweb/browse_frm/thread/5f0f3cf8a57dc5d3

No ETA is yet set, other than "soon". Having additional users before
then is very useful so we have several angles of entry covered.

I assume you're referring to TiddlyWebWiki there, not TiddlyWeb?
Either way, what Chris said.

As for being able to use any regular TW plugin with TiddlyWebWiki, we
can never fully guarantee that - but essentially, the only thing that's
different from a regular TiddlyWiki is saving, so most plugins should
Just Work.

FWIW, I would consider TiddlyWebWiki production-ready for server-side
storage. What's missing for 1.0 are mostly usability features for the
collaborative aspects (e.g. comparing revisions, recent changes etc.).

Thank you both.

Okay, I think I'll slowly start trying to get this going on my site.
Right now all I do is name my TW "index.html" and upload it to the
public folder and it just works - as that's my starting point
experience wise, I've got a long road ahead I think. As far as if my
site uses apache or not, I'll have to phone Telus and see...

I'll post at this group if I get hung up at points if that's okay
(might not start trying though for a couple weeks)

Thanks again!
