I have seen a couple of people fishing from a canoe and another couple of waders....anyone have a thumbs up/down on this?  Looks like very good bass water.

I've caught Bass (LM and SM), Catfish, Longnose Gar, Snakehead, and panfish from there, most while wading. I've even heard about someone pulling a Waleye out of there earlier this Spring.

It's a lot of fun, and worth checking out.

And here's a short video of one of the smaller bass I caught there in March:

Is there another approach to RR except from the parking lot along the parkway? How deep is it?

I would love to try it out this Saturday AM if anyone wants to join me. I could wade or canoe.

Thanks

The only approach that I know of is the parking lot along the GW Parkway (across from Gravelly Point). No idea how deep it is, overall, but the southern end (toward the airport), is relatively shallow and holds good weed beds throughout the summer.

I'd definitely be interested in fishing RR on Saturday morning, weather depending...

Only access is into the parking area from the GW Parkway going South. Exiting you have to go south on the Parkway also. Then you can escape north or south through National Airport.

My condo apartment overlooks Roaches Run and I watch folks fishing through my binoculars all the time. (Wave if you are one of them!). Apart from those in kayaks, canoes and john boats, the shore is fishable on both sides (road and railway line). There are also frequent waders and the water is wadeable just about all over, typically not exceeding waist height right out in the middle.

I'm here now. Fish at outflow are stacked up and feeding agressively. No rod as in wifes car waiting for her plane. Can't determine species. Wperch or schoolies.

I've seen people park on grass by ramp from 395 north. Seen people walk in from train tracks to fish and cast net from hot water outflow. Seen a boat try to go under from gravelly at outgoing tide???

Use google earth to find spots!

Not very much. One or two boats fishing a couple of times a week. Maybe someone wading in the evening. The odd one or two on the shore line. A few more of each category at weekends but that's about it.

From my experience, there are often people fishing the inflow/outflow to Gravelly Point, but rarely have I seen anyone exploring much more than that. Usually spin fishing types will set up on the grassy area right over the connection to GP and fish the structures off to the left. I think there's a deeper hole in there where some good sized bass have been found (I heard of a 7 pounder, but I can't verify that).

Seems to me the rest of the shoreline gets ignored, by comparison.

Not to make this over populated. May I ask where this place is you are
talking about? I am just trying to get a collection of places, it's fun to
fish new locations and test ones skills on new water.

I just hope this place doesn't become like gravelly point, where everybody
is fishing it and it is always crowded.

Sorry Victor. This is my personal opinion, but there are close to 800
people in TPFR, so the likelihood is slim that any of the places that are
mentioned here will remain a "secret spot" or place to get away from the
crowds unless the fishing isn't worth the effort.

I wasn't saying people shouldn't fish there, I was saying that people
should explore and try and find new places to fish and not limit them
self to fishing places that they hear about on the forum. I was in no
way implying that people shouldn't fish there so it can remain a
"secret spot". I have never even fished there, and I didn't intend
to.

Victor, Roaches Run is literally connected to Gravelly. If people know
about Gravelly, they know about Roaches Run. The majority of the
people who fish Gravelly don't fish RR because the shore fishing is
very limited.

Never said you implied it was a "secret spot", but to some people your
everyday spot is their secret spot, or a place they go to get away from the
masses. I've never seen anyone fishing around my favorite spot and I've
always caught big smallmouth, but I'll see a few tourists or people swimming
to cool off.

That said, there are no more secret spots that no one knows about. The
world has gotten way too small with too many people and too much
construction.

I'm not arguing with you, I am just saying that sometimes when people
hear about a spot, they flock to it, and there is nothing wrong with
that. I know there aren't any real "secrect spots" around here and I
agree with you that the world has gotten too small and crowded.
