Sorry if this is old news -- I just figured I'd post in case some folks didn't see it and might be interested in attending.

I got my tickets!  Looks cool.

See you there for sure Gene!  TPFR has been there in force for the last 4 years (see EVENTS), and this will be our fifth festival!  We offer single and double hand casting lessons throughout the event, tying lessons for kids age 5-99, paid Spey lessons both mornings, and 2 Spey Demos per day.  This festival is not to be missed!

Just throwing this out there, If anyone is interested in carpooling to this event, I would be happy to split the cost with you.  I am coming from DC but I can meet up at any metro stop.  I have not bought my tickets yet so I am open to going 1 or 2 days.  Just let me know.

Thanks,

Aaron

Is it possible to get a South River access pass on the internet or do we have to visit the book store or fly shop in person?

Cheers,

I emailed one of the contacts to ask whether a FW VA license is required, or if both the FW license and a trout license is needed.

Her response was that both are required -- due to delayed harvest regs.  I read the regs for South River and it looks like above Waynesboro the delayed harvest regs do not apply, so I was confused about fishing in the actual city limits, etc.  I'll buy both just to be sure, but I have to admit frustration at being required to carry a trout license when I couldn't care less about trout and would prefer to just catch bluegill and bass.

No biggie ;).

Greg - do you mean a FW license when you say "pass"?  There are no landowner permission requirements for South River if that's what you mean.

Dan - look forward to seeing other members!  I know some people now...getting better by going to beer ties.  Rob is also doing the shad bit I just noticed -- very cool.

I'd fall into the "Large man-child ages 18-60" category, but it appears there's no discount for that ;).

I haven't fished it, but apparently you do need a pass for the Upper South River, and it can be attained online here: https://www3.dgif.virginia.gov/troutpermits/

Hey Gene,

The schedule is from last year.  They say the new schedule will be out March 1st.  I can't wait.

Thanks, Dalton.  That's what I was referring to.

And thanks, Gene, for looking into the issue, too.

Cheers,

So that's 3 licenses to fish?  Here's the regs -- http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/waterbodies/display.asp?id=200&section=regulations

Does the permit/pass apply to the area of the festival, or is that further upstream?

Gene,

Here are some more details on the permit with a map, look under the 16 inch minimum heading: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/special-regulation-trout-waters/

I see -- thanks for posting this.  I think I already have the landowner permit thingy from going to Mossy a few months ago -- I'm pretty sure I just checked all 3 of those streams for good measure.  So it looks like I just need the trout license that I've been trying to avoid.

VA FW = $23
VA trout license = $23
