Since Ernie is has been promoting the Northern Virginia Banquet, I would be remiss if I didn't promote the Greater Washington CCA banquet. Our costs are a little higher, but we have an all you can eat oyster bar and a premium open bar. We will also have representatives from most of the DC sportfishing and conservation advocacy groups in attendance, so if you are in the biz, it is a great networking opportunity. It is really a shame that these two banquets are right on top of each other on the calendar. If they were a little farther apart in time, you could justify going to both!
Greater Washington banquet is guaranteed to be a great time supporting a great organization. CCA does a ton for your sport both locally and nationally. CCA MD hosts the Lefty Krey Tiefest coming up soon (everybody on this list should attend - I got addicted to Clear Cure Goo there last year). CCA was behind the recent changes to menhaden management and has been instrumental in getting MD DNR to address illegal gillnetting in the Bay. At a national level, CCA was recently successful in getting gillnets in the mainstem of the Columbia River banned to protect Pacific salmon, among other things. CCA is also very concerned about fish habitat and have a seat on the National Fish Habitat Plan board. Locally they are involved in building reefs in the Bay to planting oysters, and nationally they focus on enhancing fish passage and have been fighting hard for Rigs to Reefs. The Maryland chapter really wants to attract new members to get involved in more habitat work in the near future. Banquets are CCA's largest source of funding. Without your attendance and participation in the raffles and auctions, CCA would not be able to be your advocate and an advocate for conservation. So buy a ticket and support this great organization!
Thanks,
Brad
