Catawba River-Charlotte, NC area

Visiting a friend down in the Charlotte area and looking to rent kayaks and fish the Catawba River this weekend. Searched through the archives and didn't see any information on this river, does anyone have any info/recommendations on fishing that river (or any other) in that area? From what I can tell it looks to be a river somewhat similar to the Shenandoah, which is how I plan to fish it. Thanks!
