Hey Gals, Guys and Fish Bums alike,

This coming Beer-Tie, I will be holding a "farewell" for a life changing trip. This summer, I will be living in Alaska to guide during the traditional Alaskan season. That will equal four months give or take. All five species of salmon will be migrating through the state's freshwater to spawn during my time there. It will be my first experience in The Last Frontier, and you bet, I can't wait!

The lodge I'll be working for is nestled in front of a 20,000 ft., mountain, and our summer is expected to average 75 degrees apart from unexpected behavior in Alaskan climate and terrain. I will be both jet and drift boating the guests at the lodge and hope to get them onto some pretty sizable trophies.

Either way, we will all have a great time, and I hope to see you all Monday night to say farewell. It will be my last Beer-Tie until mid-fall. No one yet knows where I'll exactly be or what species I will be fishing for. I have kept these a secret, but you can expect photos and more news about it to come as I take on this exciting journey to The Land of the Midnight Sun: Alaska.

I hope to see many of you this coming Monday night at Whitlow's Sand Bar. You'll have a chance to encourage me on this daring journey and hear me play one last time. I'll have my guitar, bass and ukelele. See you there!

With a Tight Line in Mind,
- Khalil

enjoy.  i got up there to the Kenai back in '10.  It is an amazing state.  I still have some of my flies and stuff I tied for when I went up there.  If you have a 4wt and some dries, bring them along.  There are other species then salmon.  feel free to shoot me an email, i can dig up some flies for pics if you want.

Thnx, Dan.

I'll have plenty of my own dries and rods for the stay. Either way, my lodge usually buy flies by the pallet load for the season. They stock up on everything from tens of thousands of mice to the same number of simulators. Every season, rods get broken, so they'll stock plenty for the coming season. And you're right, there are other cool species to go after: rainbows, graylings and pike to name a few. Wait until you guys see what my operation will be catching!

Thnx again for the invitation to correspond. I will keep in touch. ...

the graylings are why i was referring to with drys.  that sounds awesome tho.  the bows up there are nothing like virginia.  took a while to get use to the concept of drift fishing 15' down with flesh flies.  look forward to some pics.  the weirdest thing from being up there was, no one knew what a sunfish was.

Haha. ... That's awesome, Dan. I definitely won't be looking at the summit of Old Rag.

I had the opportunity to work on the Kenai and Russian Rivers last summer. Amazing experience. Enjoy your time there, and fish as often as possible.  My one word of advice is to be wary of some of the people that you meet out there.  For the most part everyone I met was amazing, but we did find out that one of the "trappers" that we used to interact with was actually a felon wanted for multiple homicides!

That being said, I think that was a rare case and that you will have no problems. I lived in a tent from June till October and loved every second of it.  I hope AK is as kind to you as it was to me!

You are going to have a blast. I spent a summer working at Goodnews River Lodge in 2011. There is nothing quite like being able to fish for silvers 50 yards from where you sleep. Enjoy your time and rack up the photos.

Thanks a lot, Mark.

Alaska actually has the highest state density of American fugitives. They seek escape for a number of reasons, and you bet, I'll be keeping that in mind.

Also, thnx for the wishes.

Khalil,

Remember-you don't have to outrun the bears, just your clients.
See you tonight.

Snow -

Lol. ...

I guess I could yell at them by guiding at a distance.

BTW, I've also have to hashtag that #avalanche burger! If I find a sec or two tonight, count me in teaching some knots.
