Savage River - Fall Browns

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has heard how the Savage River is fishing below the Res. Anyone been down there recently? Was thinking about taking a trip down there. Anybody have any recommendations on patterns for this time of year? or awesome places to set up a tent?

Haven't been down in 3 weeks, but you should have good fishing!  In the deep pools you may run into selective feeders, but in the majority of the pocket pattern isn't important.  When I was last there foam beetles worked seemingly as well as anything, if you can drift them absolutely drag free in the hot spots -- 

Beth and I have had the experience that terrestrials work until ice-out...so that's what we generally fish.  Sometimes a CDC and elk, or duo rig in the mix.

Sorry, "ice-out" isn't the right term.  I mean the first hard freeze.  I keep a log and it happened on 11/09 last year.

Fall is streamer time on that river man .Sculpzilla and kreelex are some of the local favorites but I like anything with alot of rabbit and a trailer hook. Short casts up stream into the pockets and rip em back down quick. Foam bugs like chubbys will work in the pockets as well as long as you get a good drift. You increase your odds dramatically on that stream if you stay out of the flat pools and fish the pocket water instead.

Camp at big run camp ground on savage river road. Or white water camp ground also on savage river road. Duckies in westernport is the local watering hole and has awesome bar food and they are very friendly.
