Getting ready for a sleepy train home after three days flyfishing the Taylor and Gunnison Rivers over the continental divide west of Denver. First real fishing in several years, and it felt great.

Saturday was a guided 15-mile fast river run from the head of the Gunnison courtesy Mark of Almont Anglers. Really a fun workout of rapid fire casting and line control, and a great exercise in picking targets fast & moving on (all of these new to me). They say it's a week or two early in the season, but I brought two healthy browns, 18" & 15", aboard for a grip & grin.

Then up north an hour, just below the Taylor Reservoir for a less frantic day of casting, but a weirder day of trying to teach fish what a fly is. Big trout all around me, but after watching them ignore just about everything I sent, I decided to see if they were paying attention to anything. So I bounced my fly off their noses - nothing. I touched one with my rod, and he politely shoved over six inches. All this while they're in position right before a drop. I finally walked right up behind a large, very dark trouty looking thing and literally pushed him aside with my boot. He was surprised, but again gave way, slid over and let me have his spot. Wow, I'd just rather not know they're there than this. Real pretty to watch, though, and can't beat the scenery.

"First real fishing in several years" -- as opposed to....?

Hey thanks for that, Miles. As opposed to 10 minutes off a friends dock. Three days of river fishing is much better than that.

Cool -- thanks for the clarification. I would have said 'serious fishing', but I do get your meaning.
