Folks, Holmes Run is in the news again, and not for the fishing...makes me nervous that there are school children that walk home through there.

Story from WTOP today

Really disturbing. I remember the murders/beheadings from a few years ago. I used to go down there and fish including with my kid, it's real pretty, was featured in Beasley's book even. Maybe no more I think. Traffic and trash are one thing but I personally draw the line on this aspect of "urban fisheries." Of course I suppose one could run into one of these evil bastards out in the countryside, too.

These dudes have no interest in messing with civilians. I wouldn't worry at all about fishing there.

Anyone else notice that VADGIF no longer has Holmes Run and Accotink Creek listed on their interactive map?

They are both, however, listed on the spring stocking schedule. https://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wp-content/uploads/catchable-trout-stocking-plan.pdf

Just thought that was curious.

Ditto what Yambag said. Those bad hombres aren't looking to snatch up your wallet or children.

All that being said, ladies running or fishing alone might want to be cautious.

It really sucks that bad stuff keeps happening down there. In other news, the fish have been taking a liking to dry flies in the past week or so. I've managed to catch a few decent hatches down there
