I finally caught my first American of the year this morning. One hickory, this American, and 5 or 6 white perch. Fished the seam on a cloudy morning from 6:40 or so to 8:20. The throngs have dissipated.

What did you get them on? Shad darts? Still need to get out to Fletchers before the shad disappear.

I was using a 7-weight rod with 250-grain integrated head and two flies. A chartreuse clouser on point with a red over yellow Swope shad fly on dropper. The American took the Swope. The hickory took the clouser. The American bent the hook, so I replaced it with a Mickey Finn dropper and caught perch on both the clouser and the Mickey Finn. The American from last year took a white over purple Swope shad fly. Year over year, though, it's hard to beat the red and yellow combination whether in a Mickey Finn or some other fly.
