Dan, I fished the Savage about two weeks ago. You are in for a great time. Certainly visit Mike at Savage River Outfitters right on the river. The pool in front of the shop is epic. There's no problem parking along the river. You are going at a perfect time. The hatches should be thick and the dry fly fishing terrific. Two pieces of advice: The fish eat a lot of midges and you'll probably see clouds of them. If you are fishing dries, tie a midge pupa 18 inches back. As good as the dries are, you'll catch a lot more underneath on the midges. I used zebras and discos. You can also try midge dries. Second thing is to fish the pocket water with really big stimulators, size 8 or so. High stick them in the film and along the rocks with only the fly on the water. You'll kill it. The
fish on the upper are not as wild, but it's a very pretty place to hike into. Have a great time. Allbest, Desmond Butler
