My daughter and I have a trip up to the Bedford, PA area planned for the first weekend of September.  We may be able to carve out an hour or two to wet some flies.  Does anyone out there have any suggestions or good access points to rivers/streams in that area?  I've tracked down a website that recommended a few creeks and one named Cove Creek seems like it may be the easiest to get to based on our driving route.  Thans ahead of time for any help.

Yellow Creek has a mile-long catch & release fly fishing only stretch you can reach from Jack's Corner Road off Rte 22.  Look for the fly fishing parking lot sign.  biggish Adams flies and tiny white mayflies produce along with the usual suspects.  I believe there is enough of a spring influence to keep water temps down, but do check with a thermometer when you get there.

I study the map and can't find a Rt 22.  I did find a Jack's Corner Road and a Yellow Creek Road.  Which road is the fly fishing parking lot on?  Also, can we fish from the bank or will we need to wade in?  I have the equipment for wading but my daughter does not.  Thanks for the help.

Nomad:

Check the interactive maps at PA Fish & Boat Commission,    http://fishandboat.com/specreg.htm  and select Bedford County, then you can find marker for Yellow Creek and then Google maps can plot directions.

Nomad, I did a little staring at the satellite images and it appears that this is the parking lot: http://goo.gl/maps/FCIDr

My daughter and I did not have much luck catching trout this weekend but it is a beautiful place to fish.  From what I could gather, this part of Yellow Creek is on private property but a non-profit organization, Yellow Creek Coalition, was able to work with the owners to setup the creek for catch and release.  They raised funds to construct a road, a parking lot, and a small walking bridge over a stream.  There is a trail that parallels the creek for as far was we hiked it.  We probably only covered about a half mile of the creek but there were plenty of holes to be fished and friendly people to talk to.  It wasn't crowded but we saw someone on the trail about once an hour and most stopped to talk with us.  Almost all were having better luck than we were but they all said it was difficult fishing this time of year.  We met one man, Rick, on both days we were out there and he was nice enough to invite us back to make sure that my daughter would catch a fish.  I plan on taking him up on the offer if I can ever track down his contact information.  If anyone finds themselves heading to the Bedford, PA area, I would highly recommend this creek.
