My father and I try to do a trip down south every summer.  We have fished the keys twice as well as the Charleston (SC) area.  Does anybody have any suggestions on where we should go?  I would be fly fishing and my father using light spinning tackle.  We are also interested in using a guide.  I have looked into some other spots (Louisiana, Flamingo Florida, etc...) but wanted to see if anybody had any suggestions.

Thanks,
Jason

I love Louisiana for the giant redfish and typically do at least one trip a year down there. However, the past couple years, the conditions seem to be a bit perpetually off. The water is constantly high and dirty. I'm not sure if the guides aren't adjusting to the conditions (or don't want to adjust), or if it really is hurting the fishery. You definitely still have opportunity for awesome fishing, but it's just less consistent than it was 5 years ago.

Another option is the Mosquito Lagoon area in Florida, which may be a bit more friendly to both spin and fly fishing at the same time.

Laguna madre is south Texas is a great choice. Great sight fishing for reds as well as some of the biggest speckled trout in the us.

Are you limited to the us? There are places in Belize that have way better fishing at a fraction of the cost for what you will pay in florida or most places in the southeast if you are hiring a guide.

Some ideas come to mind:

- Matt Chipperfield out of North FL. This guy catches tons of big specks on fly and does well on reds too. (https://northguanaoutpost.com/fishing-guides)
- FINAO Sportfishing out of Virginia Beach. Sight Casting to Cobia and big drum. He's does very well. There are a few episodes of Blacktip that he is in that highlight this fishery.. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnSFeRAgBk&t=778s)
- Laguna Madre like Yambag mentioned. That place looks absurd.
- Florida Keys...no idea on what's happening in the summer down there but that place is just flat out fishy.
