Hi all, are there any suggestions for a good walk-and-wade smallmouth destination for this weekend? I was thinking the Rappahannock near Remington, as that's the only place I have really smallmouth fished, but wanted to see if anyone had any insights into how it was fishing or if there was anywhere else worth trying. Thank you all!

HI Garrison.

In the past, I had good luck at Landers.  Caught one really big smallie.  Best Andrew Baird

While you'll need to confirm the details, this is a good resource:

Also, Harry Murray has a map in his shop in Edinburgh with wade access marked for the North Fork (long drive from NoVA but much easier wading than other spots).

Tight lines,

Shenandoah River State Park can be a good spot.  Easier to access than the National Park.  You can park, walk upstream about half a mile, and then wade out into the river.  Makes a nice day trip if you don't want to do a full-scale float.

I'd be interested in joining you if you want some company!

Although they are a bit dated, althea local Steve Moore local wading books are good resources.

The South Fork of the Shenandoah is running a bit high right now (~1200 CFS), but should be very fishable at the State Park - just be careful wading because the water will be moving.

I've had good success recently fishing bigger streamers (large sparkle minnows, peanut envy's etc.) in high water on the South Fork, but also done really well catching numbers of smaller fish on golden retrievers & smaller gamechangers/crawfish swung into soft spots next to current - just make sure you're getting them down to the bottom.

Good luck if you get out there fellas.
