I've been told no, by my financial manager, plus it will not fit in my
townhouse...but if someone is looking for a gret fishing kayak for the
summer this is a great price.

If I hadn't just bought the 14' ultimate I'd be all over that deal.

Just curious what all the yakers think of this boat.  I spoke to the owner and was debating about trading my Perception Carolina 14 Touring Kayak that I was going to add Rod Holders too this year.  Any opinions?

Sounds like a good deal; wish I could myself.

That said, I ventured into an Eastern Mountain store this past weekend
in search of a few watertight bags, and saw the new Wilderness
Commander 'yak that has a similar bottom as the Native (success breeds
copies, no doubt). It seemed like really nice, with build in rod
holders, a nice seat that slides into itself so one can sit in the yak
using the seat or with the seat folded and moved, on the top of the
seat support for a better view canoe-style (have to see it to
understand it...I can't describe it well enough), as well as a built-
in trolling motor mount/rudder install point. Pretty neat.

Mark,
I've never fished from sit in kayak so I can't compare the Carolina to the Ultimate (which I own but haven't fished from yet either).  I think for most Potomac (upper and some lower) water, the U12 is quite adaptable.  It will not be as fast as your Carolina 14, nor as seaworthy in choppy water.   There's a few reviews on line.  Here's one:  http://www.georgiariverfishing.com/GAarticles/Ultimate12/Ultimate12.htm

Maybe you should consider keeping both.  In my opinion, yaks are like fishing rods - very specialized things.   That said, a 12 foot sit on top is probably the most versatile (sort of like a 6 weight fly rod).   I am perfectly happy with my Tarpon 120s, but the Ultimate is a hybrid canoe and kayak and the design seems to appeal to fly anglers more than anything else on the market.  I couldn't resist buying one.  I'm planning the maiden voyage this weekend, probably down in the flats in Belmont Bay.

If you don't like the ultimate 12, you'll have no problem selling it.  Hudson Trial Outfitters might still have a 14.5 (a blue one) for a bit more $ if a longer boat is your thing.

I did read that article and have a read a few more reviews I have found online.  They reeally are two separate beasts and I would love to have both however living in a condo has its limitations as well as the monetary issue of buying a second kayak for myself (I already have 2 kayaks as one is a 10 footer my lady uses).  I kayak all over but have only taken my Perception way out in the Bay once (about a half mile or so) off of North Point State Park.  I guess I will just have to way the pro's and con's of each and make a decision.

I understand.  I think the ultimate is a good choice for local water, even the bay if you want to fish the inshore grass flats, which I understand can be good for flounder and even redfish.
