I live in Arlington Virginia and was looking for a place not too terribly far to trout fish. I know almost all locations in the area are stocked and was curious as to which spot gives me the best likely hood of catching a trout. I'm 17 years old and new to the fly fishing community and looking to add another species of fish to the caught list.
Thank you,

Hi Carter,

The closest place to you will be Holmes Run. Keep your ears perked if your friends or family are headed out to Bailey's Corner, it's only an extra two minutes down the road (although getting to the parking requires going past the dam and doing a U turn in the neighborhood). Use an olive woolly bugger or a gold/silver Kreelex.

Good luck!

Lake Cook and accotink both have stocked trout, you can keep the fish at lake cook, but accotink is release only.

I had one decent day on Cook lake, but you have to get into 1 of about 2 decent casting positons and there is usually someone already there sitting on a tackle box.  Also, beware that it freezes over pretty easily and you may have your fly in the remaining water, but with the rest of the line sticking to a sheet of ice.

It's not my favorite ;).

Lake Fairfax also has stocked trout. Caught a few rainbows there early November.
