Was thinking about hitting it tomorrow with an 8wt. Anything big
getting caught by the discharge?

I have been twice this month and couldn't even catch a sunfish. Did see lots of shad though.

Let us know how you do, I might have a little time this weekend and was thinking of checking it out as well.

I was down at the tidal basin Sat night.  It was really quite save a giant beaver rummaging around in the bushes.  But as I was leaving I could have sworn I heard a few fish eating off the surface by the west inlet, but didn't have time to investigate.

Were the Shad biting at all?  I am planning on going there saturday if tommorrows rain doesn't blow it out.

I was there yesterday for about 90 min right around high tide.  Caught one little pumpkinseed.  There was a spin fisherman baitfishing right by the discharge and he pulled in a bunch of large bluegill.  Looked like he was keeping the big-uns.  I did have a pretty decent sized catfish swim in front of me though.  I may try to head back there this weekend as well.

I caught a few largemouth bass and a few bluegill there last wednesday evening (Jan 30) when the weather had warmed up. I don't know how active those species will be with it being so much colder outside right now.

First,  I'm new to this forum and I'd like to say thanks to everyone for all the awesome info and reports.
I have been doing quite well at four mile recently. I generally tend to do a mixture of fly fishing and spin fishing. The best fishing recently has been on an outgoing tide because the warm water from the discharge is getting sucked out under the bridges. On an incoming tide it gets ice cold and shuts down for the most part. I have seen Mostly only bluegill and small bass right at the discharge with The larger fish like the bigger bass, crappie and huge carp hanging out downstream under the bridges. I have been getting some real nice crappie (9"+) and smaller bass on a chartreuse and white clouser under the bridge in front of the Toyota dealership. Unfortunately I have not been able to get the larger bass to take the fly but I was able to get a couple nice 3 pounders on a crayfish jig on spinning gear. I don't have any to work with right now but I imagine a nice bulky crayfish pattern fly would do well near the bridge pylons

Interesting, thanks for the report Sam.  BTW, that's one hell of a snakehead in your profile picture.

There's a 50% chance I'll head down to 4MR to night fish the outgoing tide on Saturday night.  High tide is a 7:30 pm.  Anyone interested in joining me holler.
