Here are some pics for a rainy D.C. January day. Unbelievable trip and experience catching bows and browns on hoppers in Patagonia. Each day the conditions changed from wind (gusts hitting at least 35mph), rain, sun, clouds and calmer breeze. All the way fish were still active and feeding Great way to end 2016 and start 2017.

El Saltamontes and the ranch has about 6km of river thru it.    And you wade it all.   There are some other streams around the ranch (within 30-40min) that you might go to depending on conditions.   But I'm not sure what that means to them because the weather changes multiple times each day from sun to rain to windy and clouds.  I fished in shorts and tshirt one day and the next in waders, jacket and fleece and didn't see a difference in what you catch or flies you use.    Gusts hit 35mph one day and we stayed on the water.   The only accommodation was to time your cast and keep the line low to the water.    Patagonia is an unbelievable place

Jeff, How long did it take to travel there? Were you there on business or just for the fishing?

DC to Atlanta is 90min, Atlanta to Santiago is 9-10 hours, then a 2 hr flight from Santiago to Balmaceda and 90min drive to the lodge.    You can do it in about 24 hrs - it's just the travel legs that are involved.   There are other lodges in the Patagonia area with different price points, activities and amenities

We went for vacation and I fished every day for 8-9 hours and wife rode horses each day.   On the last day I did both.

I fished that area in 2013 at Paloma river lodge and had a nightmare of a time getting there. Almost 40 hours of travel time (2 broken planes) and had my passport taken by Chilean customs officials. Fortunately found an American airlines official who was about to leave for the night who talked them into "finding" my passport.

The fishing was awesome though. A beautiful area of the world with great fishing, food, wine, and people.
