Would anyone care to enlighten me about furled leaders? Pros, cons, etc? Thanks!

Jay's explanation in this gem of a book says it all.

It looks like you can access the section on Furled Leaders in Zimmerman's book here... pretty funny.

Agreed. Most fly lines have a front taper already, so I don't see the point. Plus, they abrade on a pike ' s teeth.

Furled leaders have been know to absorb water and hold water in them, therefore when you cast droplets of water spray off you leader, I've heard that the droplets scare off trout etc. I've used them in the best but learned not to love them, they provide convenience sure but you can always build your own leaders with just the same amount of convenience.

I used to use one for tenkara. In short, I think they provide little to no advantage, and perhaps some disadvantages. Waste of money, IMO.

I'd been wondering of late if I was missing out on something. "Waste of time/money" was my conclusion - pretty much confimred on Saturday at Barnes & Noble looking at a copy of Darrell Martin's latest tome where he goes into tedious detail about making them.  I may have to demote him from my fishing library and give the books away at a beer tie raffle. ;-)
