Apparently the cicadas have been sighted in droves in New Jersey!  Anyone been seeing them in the DC area yet?  I'll be home from college in a week and I'm already itching to tie up some flies and hammer largemouths on my 5 wt.  Nothin beats big bass on a light rod, anyone else planning on a little topwater bass action in the coming weeks?  Also what are your favorite patterns?

Here is a video from the Tidal Basin from a while ago. This shows a cicada in the water. Note it doesn't sit still and drift. It moves its wings. Things to think about when tying up your flies.

Morgan,

RSW mentioned that you might be interested in teaching your Cicada Pattern at the "Beginner's Table" at BEER TIE this Monday.  If so, let me know and I'll get the materials together for you.  Hope to see you there regardless.

Nam -- thanks for the link, I've shared it with a lot of folks now ;).

Morgan -- cool pattern.  I'd love to watch you tie it at the next tie of you're there.

A contact at the C&O Canal Trust checked with NPS which says the canal is, with a few exceptions for ongoing repairs, "fully watered."  So LMB action coinciding with Brood II emergence might be a possibility up around Anglers and the Widewater area of C&O - but on weekends it's a bitch to park near Anglers unless you get there by the buttcrack of dawn.

I was at Lake Anna over the weekend, and while they are not out in full force, they are definitely out.  Saw quite a few on the patio of the place where I stayed.

I've been looking for them for weeks now and after reading that article, it says that the cicadas won't be around fairfax county. Is this true? I'm quite disappointed.
In 1996, I was living in Alexandria and don't remember a cicada invasion that year.
