I've had terrible luck trying to get out for shad this season. For some reason my boss expects me to show up on a fairly regular basis and my children require my presence. I might have a narrow window this weekend, but I'm afraid it's all over now.

Anyone been out lately and can shed some light on things?

We got into a few hickory on Monday. Plenty of large white perch in there too. Hoping not too much precip over next few days and less wind.

My wife and I fished from a boat for about 90 minutes Tuesday afternoon/evening - we got a couple of Hickories, a few white perch, a catfish and a Quillback. Most of those came within the last 15 minutes of fishing... when the boat was due back in!

The river was very brown and fast, but definitely fish-able. And while I'd agree that we're past the peak of the run, there are still plenty of fish in there! Rob - where would you say we are on the Bell curve of the run?

I was out for a few hours yesterday. As Scott said, river was high and brown, but I managed to find 10-15 hickories including a few large ones. Seemed to be a small pod of them that I had to hit just right. One of Rob's favorite fish has arrived though...

I got out right around sunset yesterday for an hour, about a quarter mile downstream from chain bridge. I caught a bunch of small perch, a tiny striper, and foul-caught a huge redhorse. Didn't see any shad, but also did not have time to try more than one location. Fish were eating caddisflies off the surface everywhere, none appeared to be shad.

About halfway through the electrofishing boat came up through the channel, man that boat makes a giant wake. It took 10 minutes for the river to settle down again after they passed through. Saw them doing the actual shocking when they drifted back down and they weren't shocking as many fish up as I would have expected.

Thanks for the intel! If the weather holds up, I may give it a whirl this weekend, kiddies be damned!

Great infographic! Hercules should be at the peak, he did catch (but not release) a big sea monster (.Kêtos Troias).

Little Falls still looks up above 5 through Thursday, anyone else holding out hope for some late run magic? Historically, has there ever been much success post May 20 or so?

Shad have been caught in to June. If another few waves came upriver around the time the levels rose and the temps plunged they'll hang around until the river gets right again.

The hardest part of fishing for shad this time is year is maintaining the patience to work for a handful of fish when you were probably slaughtering them everytime you went out for the last couple of months.  If you are happy to work for fish, you can still catch them and possibly some nice ones as the ratio is going to be more slanted to americans as opposed to hicks.  I'm still hoping to give it one more crack this weekend if the water drops.
