Kevin, Gravelly Point is an official park and boat launch area, so there is a large parking lot there. You have to be traveling north on GW parkway to access it, though - there's no access from the southbound lanes.

The best area to get in the water is accessed from the bike path. From the parking lot, walk left along the bike path about 50 yards - you'll see a trail cutting down to the water on your left just before the bridge.

If there are too many folks there already, there's also access to the water behind the picnic area that's next to the boat launch.

Hope that helps - and good luck.

I'm about I head there now - I'll post if I find any fish.

Hello all,

I am new to this area, and am going to go over and give Gravelly Point a shot this afternoon.  Can anyone give me directions, advice, etc. as to where to park, where to get in, where the best spots are would be awesome.  Anything and everything is welcome!  Thanks so much.

Scott,

That was great.  Thanks so much.  Could also be a dumb question, but is the water deep in the tidal pool there at all anywhere?  It's hard to tell from the shore.  It was windy the day I was there and it looked fairly deep out there.  Am thinking of going over after work tomorrow to give it go.

The water in the Basin is a constant 10 feet deep - even right up to the walls. However there is a lot of woody debris on the bottom - trees, large branches, etc, so I'd recommend a floating line.

Oh ok gotcha. I was under the impression that you could wade in over there and fish by the bridge.

There are times when the water is very high and will flood the grassy area near the Jefferson - but in normal conditions, there is no wading at the Tidal Basin.

I think Kevin is referring to Roaches Run/the Duck Pond opposite Gravelly Point, which is wadable near the bridge.

You're right - that's my mistake. Thanks for the correction, Dalton.

Kevin - Roaches Run (the Duck Pond) is wadable, yes.

I hit up gravelly yesterday morning at first light. Got 2stripers in the 10 to 12 inch class. Sinking line and #4 clouser. I had a real big hit but i didn't get a good hook set.

I also checked out homes run for a bit, but got skunked.
