Realized I needed about 150 more yards of backing for a big re spooling I'm doing. Well guess what. Except for the Bass Pro over in Maryland you can't go to a shop and buy that around here anymore.

Really don't like it but guess I'll be taking a drive up there tomorrow afternoon. Whoopie...traffic.

Dick's doesn't carry it anymore.
Gander Mountain doesn't sell it.
Orvis doesn't sell it.

It seems like there are enough fly fishers in this area to keep a well stocked shop at a GOOD location in business but for now we're screwed.

No need for alarm. Orvis doesn't sell it but they will spool it up for you. That was the policy when I used to work there. Just bring your reel to the shop and remember to hit them back by buying leaders, flies, or something else you might need.

That's great unless you prefer spooling your own and doing your own knots etc. And I don't think Orvis would spool up 9 reels and 8 extra spoons with accompanying lines in one go. 😁

Oh, I know. I have Prime too. It's wonderful. I guess my point is that I want to have a real fly shop to go to again. I miss The Anglers Lie. I was Newells second customer the day he opened. What a candy store. Urban Anglers had great guys running it. Richie, Grizzly, Ivan and Alan were a pleasure to just shoot the breeze with and learn from. But the NYC owners just ruined that place and it was inevitable that it closed.

And now I can do Amazon or if it's something that might be there, drive to BPS. Orvis can supply the basics and a little beyond, but it's a fly fishing boutique shoved in to the corner of a clothing store. Great guys working there too but it's just not an Anglers Lie.

Where's my cheese? I seem to have plenty of whine tonight after the reality of having no real fly shop to call "second home" anymore slap me in the kisser today.

Good move. Last time I was there, I went on a Saturday afternoon because I'd finished all my chores. Huge error in judgement!

Now I stop at the one in Ashland on my way home from visiting my mother in NC - it's the perfect last pit stop for the rest of the ride home to Rockville. 

I suppose Tochterman's in Ballmer is a bit too far for you, Bob?
