Charlotte NC this week

I will be in Charlotte this week and I'm bringing all my gear.  Unfortunately I won't have time to drive into the mountains, as I have meetings every day until 3:00 or so.  I'd like to wade and fish from shore for some bass, and I'd even settle for some bluegill.  Does anyone have any ideas on good places that are North of Charlotte and easy to access?

Hi Tim,

You should definitely check out Lake Norman which is about an hour north of Charlotte.  It is an awesome fishery, with largemouth, spotted bass, and even a decent hybrid/wiper population now. It has plenty of catfish, crappie, and bluegill too.  It seems like the spotted bass are schooling on shallow points every time I'm down there.

I am not quite as familiar with the public access spots, but you could try Lake Norman State Park, and I think the website above also has details on access points as well. I've never hired the fishing guide who hosts the site above, but he always provides great reports so I would imagine he'd be a decent guide if you wanted someone to take you out on the water.
