Hello:

I am moving to D.C. from Norfolk and would love to go after some smallies. I took a hiatus for a few years and I am looking get into back into it. What are some good spots for smallies around the area?

Thanks,

Ed Ware

I'm in Maryland. There's the Harpers Ferry area, though weekends can be crowded and tough for parking and then of course there is the rubber hatch. ;-)

Spend some time staring at Bing maps or Google maps (there's a link to this one here on TPFR.org) there are many places. ICPRB, http://www.potomacriver.org/, sells maps of upper river. This one's handy, http://amzn.to/1JHIf1a too

The Shenandoah if you don't mind driving a bit or the potomac if you need something close.

Seneca breaks was my spot when I targeted smallies. End of Seneca rd in Sterling in Va, park at dead end and follow fire trails downhill. You'll have to cross George Washingron's Patowmack Canal to access the river. Not only historically cool but you'll find carp and bluegill in the canal. Google maps has it as Seneca Park.
