I was recently fishing in MA over the holidays (had a great day of winter fishing with some 13-17 inch rainbows, probably my only good day of winter fishing ever....) and the felt sole on my wading boots partially came off. The boots are hodgemens, they're a good 4-5 years old, probably see about 15-20 days a year on the water. I don't really want to spend $100 +/- on new boots (financially it's just not in the cards right now) so I'm wondering if anyone has had experience fixing their felt sole boots.

I've been thinking shoe goo or gorilla glue might work but I want the repair to be durable (i.e. last at least another year), be non toxic in water, easy to apply, and safe on the water ( i want the felt to still be able to do it's job so wrapping it in duct tape kinda defeats the purpose). Many of the other blogs online suggest some similar approaches but I wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience with this and can offer any advice.

Thanks,

David

I've used Gorilla glue in the past, and it works very well, though only for a while.  Eventually they will start to peel of again, but it will get you through several trips until they do.  If you use Gorilla glue, be sure to lightly dampen the felt before applying, it will help it set up.  Also remember, that stuff expands as it cures, so less is more, it will squeeze out the sides.  Aquaseal works well too but takes a little longer to set up.

When you do glue the soles on, be sure to wrap them very tight with masking tape or something similar to keep constant pressure on the contact area until the glue sets up.  Peel the tape off once it does.
