Yep. Headed to Deutchland for a couple of yrs. My wife works for SAP. I did 3 tours (Army) there in the late 80's early 90's and did some trout fishing in the Black Forest (spinning gear) I remember having to go to a class and taking a rigorous test in order to get my license. You were also required to kill any catches immediately. My research shows that you still need to take a test to get licensed.
Anybody fished in Germany recently? Tell me about it.

This post is pretty old, http://bit.ly/1gMixbS, but might lead you to useful sites. A friend from Denmark once recommended  this magazine, http://www.fliegenfischen.de/. Might be a good way to brush up on your Deutsch, too.

Vielen glueck!

If you listen to podcasts, Zach Matthews' Itinerant Angler had a great podcast on how to go about fly fishing in continental Europe.

Gruss Gott,
Lurker here for the past few months since moving here from Germany. Finally something I can truly contribute to on the board. I got my license the same way thru usaeur system and was in a great German club.
Do you still have your license or test certificate? If not, shame on you, but all may not be lost. If you have it, that is proof of testing, and then you just go to local Rathaus and renew. If not, find the local post rod and gun. Usaeur is supposed to keep records of all who have passed the class and test.
I can provide much more and some good Czech and Austrian ops also. Fished with a guy who was on the 1990 Czech world champ team. Neat, neat experience...
Take care,
Ron
