Howdy folks!!!

It's been a long time since I have posted pics here.

Well I have been battling diabetes, but now it's under control. Today I decided to take the day off from work and hit the stream.

The water level was still high due to rain and no rises and hatch activities. The size 8 beedhead woolyburger did the trick and managed a dozen of decent sizes.

Here are a few pictures.

Tight Lines !!!

Beautiful photos of beautiful fish.  The reel is pretty too.

Great pictures and lovely fish Todd!

Is that a 7' rod?

The size of the fish and the "SNP" designation narrows things down to (in my experience), 3 of the SNP streams.  If I had to guess based upon that, plus the steep slope on the left bank, the riffle dumping in slightly toward the right bank, a 0,80 gauge reading today, and access from where you took the first picture, I would have to guess "just upstream from second bridge crossing on the Dan-i-rap", though I could be wrong.

If I'm right, I captured a really nice salamander on a moist rock there on a rainy day last year.

Good job avoiding all of those bears and rattlesnakes.  SNP is a very, very dangerous place.

Hey Gene,

It's a 7' 3 weight glass rod from cables, a lot of people say the action is too heavy for the rod weight. Heck! I'm pulling in everything with it, so it works for me.

As far as the location that you described, It's far off. I'm contemplating if I should reveal this place or not.

It took me 3.5 miles to hike to this place and fish down and yes!!! SNP is a dangerous place, saw lots of bear s**t along the trail and few water snakes in the stream.

This is the one you don't want to come across.

Great pics.  You have me stumped on location.  I would of put my money on the Rapidan as well.

The trout are real beauties, Todd. The TPFR hat is clearly the season's "must have" fashion accessory!

Awesome fish Todd. Strange there was no dry fly action. Heading to SNP myself tomorrow. Haven't been there in months, and miss it.

No, never reveal your location!  What's the "Rapidan"?

I'm being sarcastic with the dangers related to the outdoors, but great snake photo!  That's a nice one, and indicative of the variable color pattern you'll see with a lot of species (including pit vipers).  We stumbled upon one and posted the picture a couple of years ago now (I think?)

Great rod!  The biggest fish I've "fly caught" was with a 7' glass rod (fenwick).  Short rods are (in theory and in my experience) better for fighting big fish anyway, so I'm not surprised in the least you are getting some good fish with it.

Fun report!

As far as dry fly action, it can be incredible this time of year....but we've had days around this time where the dropper outcaught 10:1 once we figured it out and tied one on.

I'd bring some of each, but that's just my opinion.

Is that a water moccasin?? I wouldn't think so... Perhaps a timber rattler?

No water moccasins this far north. Definitely a timber rattler.

That's my understanding.... glad they haven't spread this far. I have had a few confrontations with water moccasins when I lived in louisiana.. very agressive and venomous

Punch in "Cottonmouth" into the search box and you'll get some previous posts made about this species.   I have some experience (less than I wish I had) in the field and laboratory with population from Crane County, MO and would not describe them as "aggressive" in the way that most people mean it.   Most individuals only bite when grasped, but there is some individual variation (some seem to be naturally placid, others are more testy).  One of my mature females was pretty pleasant.

Cottonmouth musk actually doesn't smell too badly either; it's kind of a peppery, faint poop/chemical smell.  Compared to garter snakes and Nerodia, it's like obsession for men!
