4MR This Weekend

Howdy folks, I stopped lurking to get some advice from this great group.

My brother is flying in from Turkey on TDY and has a little down time before Uncle Sam demands his time.

I wanted to take him fly-fishing down on 4MR near the treatment plant & perhaps down along Gravelly Point on Sunday or Monday

 

I have done some research and it is my understanding I should fish the outgoing tide with #2 clouser minnows.

Does this sound about right?

I am a novice at fly-fishing & have only fished 4MR once on a Tenkara rig with little luck.

I'd stick to 4MR if you're thinking of staying local. It's the best bet in town for some sort of action in the winter unless you have access to kayaks or a boat. I personally stay away from Gravelly when water temps dip below the mid-40s (they're at 38 now). Just my two cents. Tight lines!

Tyler I just Googled "Potomac River Tide Chart" & used Alexandria as a source.  This weekend low tide appears to be around 1pm & 1am.

The Simple Tides app for iPhone is also a good resource, really easy, I think it's free as well.

Not that there aren't enough suggestions already, but I usually find myself using the chart on the Orvis fishing report page for the Tidal Potomac. I like it because the chart is easy to read, and it gives the actual times for High and Low tides below the chart - as well as times for Sunrise and Sunset.
